Title: Is this for real??
Post by: DeltaM on July 16, 2009, 07:19:48 PM
I know there is a schedule III firearms license but really!  Admittedly, some of it looks like fun (though expensive) but the Brady group obviously are not well represented ;).

I would definitely want to do this sometime. When is that big shoot in Kentucky where they fire full auto? Man, it has been a long time since I got to fire a fully auto weapon. I truly miss it.

I'd just like to get the brass from one of these events.  Let's see, the last copper I bought was $4.40 a pound.  If I could go round and scavenger the brass from all of them---$$$.

A local range does a "full auto" day in the fall where you get to rent and shoot some fun stuff.  You know, Ma-Duce, SAWs, Tommy guns, Uzis, mac-10s, ect.  Even had a mini-gun one year.   Tons of fun but bring a lot of cash.

The local range here rents Machine guns, They had an M60, ($65 = $1 a round) StG 44 ($100 + ammo) but the last time I was there ammo constraints had reduced them to just the 9mm's and .45's ($35 /hr + ammo )Thompson, M-3 MP 5 MP40 Sterling, some suppressed. Their bread and butter seems to be pistols though.

And a great time was had by all.

It ain't Knob Creek, but it looks like fun. Actually smaller might be a lot better. Knob Creek has gotten huge.

Northeast Texas to Knob Creek in Kentucky, about 10 hrs. Northeast Texas to Phoenix, about 16 hrs. (not sure where the Big Sandy shoot is located in AZ).

Well, Knob Creek is a classic. ;D

Yes, it's  for real!  A lot of fun too...but DAMN expensive and wasteful if you ask me (but nobody did!).

Did a bit of research and found this.  http://www.mgshooters.com/

I especially liked the old antique looking Gatlin Gun.

When I was in High School, I use to get cash under the table for workin the Shoot here at Knob Creek every year.  You are right though, it has gotten so big its almost more of a hassle than it is worth to go.  I live 20 minutes from the range...

Also, there is a new indoor range (indoor paintball course too) here in Louisville that has a 100 yd indoor range for rifles, and they rent fully autos as well...

BUSHMASTER M4:$75 (additional 20 round mags $20)
H&K MP5: $75 (additional 30 round mags $20)
FNH P90: $105 (additional 50 round mags $40)

check em out at www.openrangesports.com

Also next machine gun meet at Knob Creek is OCT 9, 10, &11

OK, forget the earlier mileage estimates. Kentucky, Arizona, Florida, automatic weapons and Hazarittas, it'd be worth flying!!! ;D

I didn't realize that you were in that neck of the woods. We lived in Elizabethtown for just over 3 years. That's some mighty fine country.

We used to hit Thunder every year. We got there bright and early and pitched a big tent right up front by the river. My daughter was 5 to 8 during our time there. She was (and is) a pretty little blue eyed blonde (16 now) and she was interviewed by a local Louisville news station all 3 years. The whole family really enjoyed our time in Kentucky. We've been blessed to live all over this great country and I've spent quite a few years overseas too. Life is a great adventure. :)

I need a few months to take care of and recover from some health issues, but then we plan on doing plenty of traveling. Florida will definitely be on the list. Don't be surprised when you get a phone call from a fella with a Texas drawl. ;D
