They hoped to stem a recent surge in the number of inquiries about Obama's birthplace.
"I ... have seen the original vital records maintained on file by the Hawaii State Department of Health verifying Barack Hussein Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen," Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said in a brief statement. "I have nothing further to add to this statement or my original statement issued in October 2008 over eight months ago."
So-called "birthers" — who claim Obama is ineligible to be president because, they argue, he was actually born outside the United States — have grown more vocal recently on blogs and television news shows.
Fukino issued a similar press release Oct. 31, but was prompted to speak out again because of the renewed attention on Obama's beginnings. Hawaii's Health Department has been flooded in recent weeks with questions from individuals and several national TV news networks asking for proof that Obama was indeed born in Hawaii.
"They just keep asking over and over and over again," Health Department spokeswoman Janice Okubo said.
The Constitution states that a person must be a "natural-born citizen" to be eligible for the presidency. Birthers contend that Obama's birth certificate is a fake, and many say he was actually born in Kenya, his father's homeland. They've challenged his citizenship in court.
One widely circulated YouTube clip of a town hall meeting showed a Republican congressman getting booed for saying Obama is a citizen. Talk show host Rush Limbaugh and CNN's Lou Dobbs have also raised the issue, and 10 Republican members of Congress co-sponsored a bill that would require future presidential candidates to provide a copy of their original birth certificate.
However, it appears Congress has moved on and has accepted Obama's island birthplace. The U.S. House on Monday unanimously approved a resolution recognizing and celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hawaii becoming the 50th state. A clause was included that reads: "Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961."
State law bars the release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest.
However, Obama's birth certificate along with birth notices from the two Honolulu newspapers were brought forward even before he took office. But that's done nothing to shake the belief by many Obama critics that the president was born abroad.

The stupidity needs to end. If you want to go after the man, there is plenty of real stuff. Its like the Clinton haters (of which I was one, but not on this issue) who made themselves look like idiots over Vince Foster when there were plenty of real scandals there. Folks need to get off the grassy knoll and focus on real problems. The trouble is too many in the GOP either don't understand or can't admit why they lost and so are looking for a conspiracy or a scapegoat to blame, rather than accepting that they screwed up and need to fix things in their own house. Every minute they spend hunting this particular snark is a minutenot spent on building a new GOP (one I and millions of others who voted NO in '08 might vote for next time). Its kind of sad. FQ13

Haz Did it it ever occur to you that Oama is laughing his ass off over this? Letting his enemies whip themselves up into a lather, make a huge case over the missing birth certificate, and then say, "Oh here you go, I'll release it"? Why would he release it when its conveinent for you, not him? The kookier you're enemies look the better. cf my post above. FQ13

Didn't realize there was an issue over Michelle's work, but I will say that I wrote plenty of dumb stuff when I was in my twenties that makes me cringe now. That's how you learn. You wouldn't get me to post it without a court order though, as folks could and would use it to misrepresent me in terms of my views today. Its like when politicians are asked, Have you ever used illegal drugs? The first one that says That's none of your damn business, gets my vote. FQ13

Michelle's thesis was a raciest screed (there's a surprise ::) ). Where did the money come from for them to go to school? Who are they 'owing'? When did he make all of his overseas trips, where did he go, and who paid? These are all legit questions.

FQ, There is more to this than just the "Birth Certificate / Place of birth question. When his Mother remarried BO attended school in Indonesia. Under Indonesian Law ONLY Indonesian Citizens are allowed to attend "public" schools, (Such as the one BO went to) This would indicate that the StepFather ADOPTED baby Barry, thereby obtaining Indonesian Citizenship for him. Fine and dandy SO FAR. HOWEVER, Indonesia does not, and DID NOT recognize the concept of dual Citizenship, which means that in order to obtain Indonesian Citizenship he (Or his Guardian) were required to Officially renounce his claim to US OR Kenyan Citizenship. Even if he later got it restored, (Of which there is no record, and it would have been open to the public HAD there been one ) BO was no longer eligible to LEGALLY hold the Office of President. Another indicator in this direction is that all through his college career he seems to have been dormed with Foreign Muslim students. Why ? Did his records indicate that he was a foreign Muslim ? Fresh out of College this unemployed middle class youth with loans to pay back found the funds to travel to Pakistan which at the time was off limits to Americans. How did he do that, did he violate American law ? Or did he use an Indonesian Passport ? (Also , how did he finance this trip ? ) As to him laughing his ass off, I don't think it is people like ME that he is laughing at.

I agre that they show maturation of thought. It doesn't mean they're any of your damn business, even if I do run for office. Do I have a right to Cheney's doctoral proposal? Hell no! Could he release it, yes. But its his call not mine. If the standard for running for public office is standing naked under a spotlight, get ready for Paris Hilton vs Mitt Rommney in '012. BTW, I'm not defending BO here, just saying these attacks are kookier by the day and distract conservatives from asking the question "Where did WE go wrong"? Rather than blaming everyon else for their own screwups. Its called taking responsibility, which used to be part of the GOP plartform till W gave Libby a walk and pushed the 1st bailout. Just sayin'. I think we need to know more about a person than his or her 'official' bio and what they have done in public for 10 years of their life if we are to make informed decisions.
The media dug up Ws dental records when trying to prove he was a deserter. How come we (I) can't ask about a public officials past?
School records and transcripts? ABSOLUTELY! Clubs and affiliations? ABSOLUTELY (skull and bones anyone?) Travel to foreign counties? ABSOLUTELY! Financial obligations? ABSOLUTELY!
ALL of these things (and more) directly impact character, judgment and give an insight to how a person will react to a situation or in decision making.

In my mind the biggest red flag in this whole controversey is that we are asking for the simplest of simple evidence, and he won't lay it out on the table.
Why do he and his minions do more work to answer a simple question?
If I'm investigating a crime where someone used a touch tone phone to make a call, I ask for the right index finger print from a group of people, , but only one person refuses to give the print, who do you think I'm going to go after even if everyone claims they weren't there?
Quit avoiding the question, and quit having your "People" produce documents that don't matter. Give us the simplest of simple proof.
This reminds me of raising kindergartners. For you older parents, remember the days you would walk in the house and ask how everyone's day went? Sure enough one of the urchins would shout out "I didn't do it." BUSTED!!!

While I may agree that the GOP went off the reservation, you act as if the Dem's are not at fault for of current situation. You don't acknowledge that they have held congress for the last 2 years. Nor do you place blame on the DEMOCRATS responsible for the housing crisis. Our current economic situation can be placed firmly at the feet of Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Bill Clinton.
When Republicans tried to audit, and reform Fannie, and Freddie, they were filibustered to prevent fixing the problem. This was done by Frank. If you really want to fix the problems in Washington, first stop blaming the parties for corruption. The Dem's are far more corrupt the the GOP. (New Jersey ring a bell). But stop looking to congress to police themselves. Instead figure out a way that WE THE PEOPLE can start to do independent investigations of the corrupt asshats and then shame the rest of congress to throw them out. Obviously the people that keep electing them are to stupid to vote them out!

Consider this before going off on how bad the GOP candidate was. The Dem's jumped the fence in OUR primary and gave him to us. He made a smart move by nabbing up Palin, but she was so feared by the Dem's that they personally destroyed her. They couldn't compete with her record nor could they challenge her arguments with facts. So they resorted to the only tactic they have, personal destruction.
I never did like McCain. But he wasn't chosen by the GOP. The Dem's got the candidate that they wanted to run against. They weeded out the weakest of the herd and they destroyed him. I just hope that he went back to the senate realizing how the Dem's really felt about him, and quits making deals with them.

Your post illustrates the double standard applied by Socialists. It is "kookie" to ask what citizenship BO actually is entitled to, that being one of the Constitutionally stipulated requirements of the Office. But the same hypocrites think it is perfectly acceptable to manufacture National Guard records for George Bush, and hound Sarah Palin and her daughter because the girl got pregnant. To flaunt BO as a "fresh face" because he has never been responsible for ANYTHING (even in the Senate he was just another beast in the herd) While attacking a SITTING Governor for a "lack of leadership experience. What a crock of BS.

In other threads discussing this issue FQ has fallen back on the defense that " wouldn't the Clinton machine have dug up any available dirt on BO". New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson was supposed to get that job. I remember flying back from Albuquerque with a VP in a Citation 10 after he had left Bill's office a year before he got into the race. It was always about him getting the Secretary of State's job...why I don't know. Check my old posts...I think I covered that here. Bill got shafted...must have been some big strings to get the Hildebeast on the job.

if his wife has a PHD, she has to be published, it would be basicly public record, it should not be hard to find.
peronally, if I was Obama, I would not relase my birth cert( atleast not now), not becuase I was worried about my privacy, but just to piss the "enemy" off.
I think I might my last day of office, just for spite... ;D

There's new speculation about Barry's parentage. His "mother" was photographed at the time she should have been pregnant and she was thin as a rail. The allegation is that Madelyn Dunham was his Mother fathered by Frank Marshall Davis. This makes Stanley Ann his sister and his Grandmother his mother. It fits, but the release of documents is necessary. You have to remember, "the allegation of impropriety merits an investigation".
I took a brief look at the thesis, I should have printed it for toilet paper. It is odd that an institution would allow such a theme for it is simply a voyage into personal angst. This type of thing is generally out of bounds. I fulfilled a similar requirement for a BA in Social Work.
