Recovery Act Funds to Add Police Officers to the Streets; Build Safer Communities
Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder today announced $1 billion in grants to fund the hiring and rehiring of law enforcement officers all across the country under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The grants will be awarded to 1,046 law enforcement agencies from all 50 states and will provide 100 percent of the approved salary and benefits for 4,699 officers for three years. Police departments receiving the grants will then be required to retain the grant-funded positions for a fourth year.
I thought everybody getting together for a beer was going to smooth this whole thing over ???

"Sure, the Fraternal Order of Police endorsed McCain for President, but with Obama’s recent P.R. disaster with the police (and much of America for that matter), it might not be too early to start using taxpayer money to try and buy not only forgiveness, but also a 2012 endorsement."

BSO's (Broward Sheriff's Office) were left out for the pretty cops in Aventura,.... we have a 105 MILLION dollar LEO budget and lay off's are imminent.

Layoffs at BSO: Broward Sheriff's Office announces 177 layoffs
The Broward Sheriff's Office has told 177 current employees -- including 48 deputies -- that they'll be laid off effective July 31, the Sun Sentinel has learned.
Putting a couple more SD items hidden around the house for the upcoming fall season.... See,,, when its not so hot and humid,,, crime goes up down here...

That's funny, I thought local law enforcement was a local issue, not a federal one. where are the good old conservative republicans on this one?
