Just also caught this on Foxnews,..... Video tape is gasoline for the Brady Bunch...

Bastards...
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, issued the following statement about the announcement, by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, of the results of an investigation into gun shows:
"Many transactions at gun shows are a threat to public safety. We need leadership on this issue from the White House and we don't have it right now. President Obama supported tightening the rules at gun shows as a Senator and as a candidate for President in 2007 and 2008. But since taking office, he has refused to engage on this issue, and he appears to have silenced his Cabinet secretaries as well.
"The President needs to urge Congress to close this dangerous loophole, and his Administration needs to provide the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives the resources to effectively enforce federal gun laws. Thanks to Mayor Bloomberg and the New York City Police Department, the public can see firsthand what goes on at these weapons markets. Private sellers trade AK-47s for cash without even seeing identification, and straw purchases occur regularly without oversight.
"This important investigation shines light on two critical gaps regarding gun shows. First, unlicensed sellers are selling guns without conducting Brady criminal background checks - cash and carry, no questions asked. Second, some licensed sellers operating at gun shows are breaking current federal laws, and are not held accountable due to the lack of federal law enforcement oversight at these events. Mayor Bloomberg and New York's law enforcement leaders deserve praise for conducting this investigation."
As the nation's largest, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence, the Brady Campaign, with its dedicated network of Million Mom March Chapters, works to enact and enforce sensible gun laws, regulations and public policies. The Brady Campaign is devoted to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in our communities.

They used the same tactics used in the Acorn sting to find this in Ohio, TN, and NV.
Any way they can, the video doesn't help, when a buyer tells a dealer "I can't pass a NICS check, and the dealer says cash and carry".....
Damn,...
-
It has nothing to do with Gun Shows and everything to do with bad people committing felonious acts. People that are knowingly committing a felony should go to prison........ THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GUNS!
-
I noticed its not a gun show anymore,,,, it's a "weapons market",... :(
-
According to www.gunfacts.info far less than 1% of guns used in violent crimes are purchased at gunshows. Bear in mind that this includes those used in suicides and domestic violence incidents.
Bloomburg is AGAIN conspiring to commit felonies in his vendetta against our civil rights.
ATF should charge him this time.

....
I wish, this time, the anti's would use that, but they don't, won't and will stop at nothing to get Gov't to get their grubby fingers into any part of public "weapons markets" they can....
Tick Tock, Tick Tock, .....
Pressure cooker is about clicked out...
-
Why aren't the Senators and Reps from OH, TN and NV getting together and petitioning the DOJ to investigate this, and have the ATF bring Nanny Bloomie to bear?
Would love to see him do the perp walk just once.
-
So far I have only read their version. I'd like to see the vids (unedited) and see interviews (if possible) with the sellers.
When only one side is presented.....

Heck, why aren't the people of NYC screaming about wasting all the $$$ on this when they have a HUGE budget shortfall???

Lack of "Trans Fats" has effected their brains.

While I'm sure the number is really low, I really doubt its 1%. FTF sales are very hard to keep track off. Most guns used in crimes are stolen.

True, but a very large percentage can be traced to a very small number of dealers (not gun shows, but dealers). The one useful thing Chuck Schumer,my least favorite Senator, did was was commision a study showing that 2% of gun shops sold a stupidly high (like 70%) of the guns used in murders. It SHOULD be easy to put these bad apples out business. Shut them down and let the rest of us go on about our business. But, no. The anti's have a larger agenda. It isn't about bad apples, its about banning guns (because that will end gun crime as surely as banning pot will make sure no one smokes it). The gun show bit is nothing but a ruse. Hell, I've sold a half dozen guns here (including a very nice AR on sale now ;D). Am I the problem? Are you for buying it? No, and they know this. The idea is to regulate and record every sale so that each gun and owner is on record so that they can then pull an Australian style gun ban. It probably won't happen, but that's what they want. And they are laying the ground work to get there. Private sales get in the way of their program. They know it and we should too. Bloomberg is at least semi-honest about his agenda. The fact that this guy is a Republican is reason 2,456 why I don't trust either party further than I can throw it.

there is one good thing about CA, going to all transfers( other then direct family members, father/mother to child) needing to go thru a ffl...
I've not heard one thing about a gun show loop hole from a state rep since jan 1 99( when that law went into effect)
I worked in a high volume FFL for a long time.( a slow day was 25 guns, weekends 100+ ) in all my time working there,( about 2 years) We had like 10 kick backs. only one of those was a DOJ kick back. all the rest were DMV kick bakcs( AKA failed to pay a ticket, or it was paid and never cleared) That should tell you how uncommon it is for some one thats on the "no-no" list that actually make it to the background check. Now we did have several not make it past the prescreening Qs.

FQ, Bloomy quit the Republican party some time ago. Where have you been ?

you know there was this other Rep... he was in office for 8 years... he said he would sign another AWB if it made it too his desk...
Maybe you have heard of him... GW bush.
-
Would you rather have politicians who don't do bad things they say they will ( GWB did say that, He also, you conveniently forget allowed the Clinton AWB to expire ) or ones who promise GOOD things, like say, transparency in their administration, and fail on them ?
-
Dont worry TAB, we hate ALL politicians! ;)
*Also child molesters, lawyers, used car salesmen, and college professors
-
he didn't allow the AWB to expire, congress did that. its out side the scope of his power.

Didn't know it at the time but I was at one of the shows (Niles Ohio) where Bumble berger sent out his stings. Tried to explain to my wife that what they are doing is against the law but she couldn't/wouldn't understand! The only thing she could say is that if dealers and private individuals wouldn't sell illigally there wouldn't be a problem. She doesn't understand that a few are screwing it up for the vast majority.

Bingo. But isn't that the case in a multitude of issues?

Shouldn't this thread be full of:
"I wish those dealers weren't such idiots!"
and
"I hope the BATF prosecutes those dealers!"
??????
I don't care if it was Bloomberg, the NRA or ACORN that set up the sting, the fact is that they caught unscrupulous dealers who were taking actions that could very well have a very negative impact on all our US.

I agree, I wish they would go after these guys... but sadly they can't use that tape against them.
Logic and the law almost never agree...

Yes, Rob. And I whole heartily want those guys put behind bars.... However, the purpose of the sting was not to catch people doing this and arrest them (Which would be logical if they really wanted this stopped). Bloomberg is only trying to sensationalize things to get more anti gun legislation passed. His focus is not keeping criminals from buying guns..... he wants to shut down gun shows. Lets not forget who is spearheading this......The man wants Draconian gun laws in place nationwide just like the ones he has in his city.
The laws to stop these illegal transactions are already in place and need to be enforced. If this is going to be stopped, then Bloomberg needs to stop going around trying to dig up videos for YouTube and they need to start formulating a plan to use the manpower and resources available to actually arresting these guys and prosecute them for the federal crimes that they are committing.

In Bloomberg's own words:
Now, why is the Mayor of New York City investigating gun shows in places like Ohio, Tennessee, and Nevada? Good question. And the answer is: because I have no other choice.
Its not about catching criminals, its about shutting down gun shows.... Thats why its called a "Gun Show loophole" and not a "private sale loophole" or what it really is.... a violation of an already existing federal law.

This thread WOULD be full of those sort of comments if the video were from a trustworthy source.
With out even watching the video I will say that information from Bloomburg is about as reliable as from any other Brady associate.
In other words, not much. (Surprisingly " the Bloomberg Report" is reasonably unbiased, go figure )
As to having a negative impact on US, it is in fact an excellent arguing point FOR US.
What good are MORE laws when they are not enforcing the ones already on the books ?

Rob, I posted just such a thing in the other thread on this. The guy that sold 348 SKS in a year and the idiot that says he 'keeps a good inventory' with (my guess) 60 handguns for sale should have been thrown out!

It was a publicity stunt, as is most anything almost any politician does in the public eye.
Our cause would be better served if gun show organizers policed the shows themselves - maybe hire a security company or off-duty, uniformed police officers to maintain a high profile presence at the event. Also, let it be known to the vendors that plainclothes security folks will be present. And invite the local media to the event to see for themselves how well it is policed.
I've attended shows in Richmond that at times took on the appearance of a gang rally, with clots of men dressed blatantly as gangstas swaggering among the tables, ogling and handling the "baddest" looking pieces they found and leaving no doubt in my mind as to what was in their minds.
Creating the right perception can go a long way toward winning the battle for public opinion.

You are one hundred percent right here. It's why I get on people here for anything racial. Its about controlling perception. If folks think we are all klansmen, toothless drunken rednecks or gangbangers, we lose. If they see us as their next door neighbor we win. The anti's will never go away or be converted. Screw 'em. What we can do is convince folks in the middle that guns and gunowners are not a problem, so they look at the Brady Bunch as the extremists and not us.

I agree with what you say Rob but didn't Bloombutt and his "Sting" break as many if not more laws than the dealers? What about prosecuting them? I wish I new a way to force the subject but I don't. Also, BATFE shows up at many of these GS and watches over things...why aren't they setting up "Sting" operations? Why doesn't BB work with them, because like CK said it was a publicity stunt!
