New Laptop
« on: November 28, 2009, 06:33:33 PM »
Got a laptop ( my 1st ) a few weeks ago, and I LIKE IT, it jives with the wifi in the house, and has a great picture, but is very small. 10.5" screen. ACER aspiron. Then got a USB mouse, a DVD burner, and headphones, + a audio cable that all fit into a small bag with the power supply. A couple of thumb drives and voila, a cool little go anywhere web access. Has a web cam and built in microphone, Came with windows xp, instead of vista.

I am not that computer savvy, but am liking this little dude.

Good choice Ben, Acer has made some great strides in the market and pretty highly rated these days.  Enjoy it and resist the temptation to upgrade to Vista.

Cool.  They are very handy. As you can move about the Place.  Hook up a 3g card for net acsess while you are out and about.

I mostly use laptops.  Just have a desktop for all our family photos and all the music.

Just watch for those nights when you have had a few while surfing the net. Leave it on your guts as you were on he couch. The. Fall asleep. It will wake you as it slides off and falls on to the floor. (trust me hehe )

One of my brothers bought one of those and he loves it. Uses it in his job for records and such. Let us know more after you range test it more. ;D

All I can say is my Macbook has served me well for a year. I won't go back to Windows for anything. Windows 7 is a joke. Especially considering Microsoft's push for Cloud based operations and personal storage. Basically meaning that starting in 2010 with the new Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.) all files saved in the programs will be stored on the cloud automatically. Storing on the "cloud" is similar to what Blackberry does where your materials and files are stored on servers and not your personal pc. I think this is just what you would want to use if you were monitoring personal files for political incorrectness or for things that disagree with your agenda so you can target select individuals or group for censure.

also a worry if you have a crappy net connection   or what happens if something goes wrong    who / how / is responsible for the data or back up

Apple also have a "cloud" service with MobileMe   however you set what you put on there   it is also used as a Sync service for data not all storage.

I use MobileMe for a lot of my work but only to the extent that I choose to. Microsoft is not going to provide this much flexibility. Our neighbor is a beta tester for Microsoft. He tested W7 and is just receiving the new Office. Unfortunately he is too hardcore Microsoft to disagree with anything that they do. So we'll see. I will not buy anything that forces me to open my files up to the maker of any product. I will still back MobileMe because of the obvious usefulness as long as I say what goes on it.
