As a former LEO I really try to not get involved in pissing matches with those who hate people simply because they wear a badge.  But I must admit it does light the fuse on my tampon when they do it.  Are there cops who shouldn't even be crossing guards?  Hell yes.  Just like any other profession.  It burns my ass royally, however, to see a group of dedicated professionals who put their lives on the line daily to do a job that most people couldn't do, either physically or emotionally, painted with a broad brush by some asshat who isn't worthy to carry the officers' extra ammo.

God bless the good, honest, hard-working, selfless MAJORITY that wear the badge and allow us to sleep safely at night.  And screw those who hate them because of what they do for a living.

Rant off.

There's good and bad in every profession.  When it comes to cops, in my humble opinion the good guys outnumber the bad ones by a wide margin.  It's easy to think the trooper writing you for 5-over is an a-hole, but the average cop who saves a child's life is a hero in my book.  If he manages to put a number of 9mm or .40 s&w's in the sexual molesting bad guy while they are doing it, I see great monetary savings to whatever state is concerned.  Every time these good-guy men and women pin that badge to their chest, they become a target for the bad guys--and the media, too.

I'm happy to blast 'em when they break the law they're sworn to uphold, but I won't agree that they are all knuckle-dragging neanderthals.  The rest of that story is the truly bad cops generally get weeded out by the ones who actually believe in the job they are doing.  And the truly good cops step up and save lives without concern for their own.
“I’ve lived the literal meaning of the ‘land of the free’ and ‘home of the brave.’ It’s not corny for me. I feel it in my heart. I feel it in my chest. Even at a ball game, when someone talks during the anthem or doesn’t take off his hat, it pisses me off. I’m not one to be quiet about it, either.”  Chris Kyle

Since I'm being asked.......

No, absolutely I don't think ALL cops are bad.  MOST?  Yes.  And do I blame the cops themselves for that?  NO!

I blame our legal system.  IMO.  A far better way to "police" our society would be to cut the police forces to something around a fifth or even less of their current man power.  Trim the dead wood, and under achievers in doing this.  Or better yet, start fresh with an entirely new department.  Require FAR, FAR, FAR better qualifications to even enter training, improve the training a hundred fold, and OF COURSE, PAY THE MEN WHAT THEIR WORTH!!!  With so many fewer of them I don't see the budget being a big stretch.

This is only the starting point!  And I personally think it's the best place to start cleaning up our entire legal system.  THE WHOLE THING NEEDS AN OVERHAUL!  Judges of today courts are just as poorly qualified and corrupt as even the poorest quality police officer.  I believe I remember a quote along the lines of.  "A latino woman judge is better suited to be a judge than a white man."  You know the one I'm talking about.  Makes me sick.  Impartiality is only a joke in today's courts.

Again, cops aren't the only ones at blame here.  WE allowed the legal system to have become what it is.  So I, you, your neighbor, and his neighbor are the ones really at fault here.  :-[

I don't think any on here including Cops will argue with any of that.
Especially the part about " we allowed it".
