Walther P99 thoughts

Looking at a second full size gun and made the mistake of handling a Walther P99 in 9mm. Does anyone have any field experience with the various triggers? I like the feel but didn't get the chance to spend alot of time with it. I also see that there are several trigger systems. Please let me know your feelings about the gun. I'm thinking it would complement my M&P. I'm looking at the M&P in 9mm but just as an alternate handgun to change things up so to speak.

Yes!!!  I have two P99's in 40Cal  One with the QA trigger and the other with the AS trigger.  These are great guns and I fell in love with what I thought was a business transaction.  My QA I bought off of a female PD officer that couldn't handle the 40 Cal.  The Mag release is what sealed it for me.  I evidentally have short thumbs or fat hands because I can't hit the mag release on any other weapon. 

I personally like my AS trigger the best.  Walther has developed a Striker fired gun with a decocker.  The AS trigger means that when the Striker is uncocked the trigger is in "Double Action" mode.  Long & heavy.  After the first shot it goes into "Single" action mode and the trigger is short and light.  Many have said it is lighter and nicer than many glocks and springfields.  It isn't the cool name like glock or springfield though.  This is my carry gun.  The QA trigger is a Double action only style where the gun has to be cocked to shoot but the Striker is "Half Cocked" and you pull the rest of the stroke back making it a short trigger pull but still somewhat heavy. (around 6 pounds I think)  It still has a decocker for disassembly without pulling the trigger.  There is a full DAO model. "Double Action Only" also and it is pretty straight forward Double Action Only.

Are you looking at new or used?  There are a couple of different Generations and the easiest way to tell is the Mag release on the later gen is much longer and easier to use.  Mine are both the original short releases but I still like them too.
