I imagine some of you caught the segment on West Nile Virus in April's Soldier of Fortune Magazine (p.26). BTW, elevated levels of B1 wards off mosquitoes. Anyway,
"....After the (first gulf) war under increasing international scrutiny and pressure, Saddam Hussein moved his facility beyond the reach of UN inspectors, to Cuba (Coober to those in Rio Linda), where it was renamed the Frente Biologico (Biological Front) to prepare for eventual biological warfare against their common enemy, the United States of America, according to two Cuban scientists who defected to Europe, Dr. Luis R. Hernandez, now living in London and Ornithologist Carlos Wotzkow, currently in Switzerland. According to the reports on this secret project the Cubans introduced the West Nile Virus into the United States in 1999 via migratory birds with outbreaks the following year in Israel and Saudi Arabia, two of Iraq's staunchist enemies. There is no vaccine or antidote for humans and at least 46 States were eventually infected with a fatality rate of only 3 to 15 percent. But an Iraqi defector has stated that the Cuban lab also developed a special strain of the West Nile Virus in 1997 called SV1417 which has a staggering 97 percent fatality rate."
