Machine guns
« on: January 07, 2008, 12:02:29 AM »
In the Marines ,and later in the NH Army National Guard , I got some trigger time on the M60 M2 (Gotto love Ma duece) and M16 ( The Marines were NOT big fans of full auto rifle fire)
Any of you have machineguns ? What about renting them at your local range? Here in NH we have 2 indoor ranges that rent full auto weapons. I haven't yet cuz all my ammo money goes through my pistols, but among the Thompsons, AR's, MP5'sand Sterling's, They have an StG- 44  Yes Virginia there IS an "assault weapon"  { this may get pretty basic for some of you but I can't by the only one who likes gun/history trivia, can I} This is a TRUE assualt rifle, StG is for Sturm (storm or "assualt") Gewehr (rifle)The Nazi German forces were looking for a firearm that would combine the best features of the MP40 Submachine gun ,light recoil and full auto capability, and the Mauser rifle, Longer range and better accuracy. They came up with the Stg, Chambered in 8mm Short they were MOSTLY issued to units on the Eastern front, but some were used on the Western front,They were said to be reliable and accurate but kicked like a mule, one of the accesories developed for it was a periscope sight and 45 and 90 degree bent barrel attachment that allowed the shooter to fire around corners much as Our Troops today use video , The end of the war kept them from being more widely issued but they did gain a very good reputation. OK done babbling , any way they have one to shoot up here , also have one for sale
How about some stories about  machine guns or other oddball stuff you have fired? I KNOW Marshalette must have a story or 2 from the O.F.A.S.T.S. Event :D

tombogan,
New Englands largest machine gun shoot happens in October at the WESTFIELD SPORTSMANS CLUB in Westfield, MA. Located not far off exit #3 of the MASSPIKE. We have most every MG you can think of for rent (just for the cost of the ammo!).
Dates this year are Oct.25 & 26 rain or shine.
Check out the documentary that Big Saucy made for us (http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1119644865/bclid1119174561/bctid1308022999)

To be real honest, I didn't know one from the other as far as being able to tell you the make-model etc.  :-\
But I DO know that the best one  I liked to shoot was the one where I sat on the ground. Yesssir~~ the bigger and louder it is ..the more I like it. ;D
And you can bet your sweet hinny I'll be back to the one this year in June..

My whole family (sons and ex-hubby & of course Marshal) are ate up with the love of guns.
My ex and youngest son are also gun dealers.
Which means ( in my family)  that they usually keep as many as they sell.  ;D
So I am always being grabbed up and taken out to our watershed lake with a.... "Mom.. You HAVE GOT to shoot this .. This is just awesome."
One of his 'big boys' is a 500 Smith & Wesson. Holy snickeys!  :o I finally got up enough nerve to shoot it this weekend and it liked to tore the inside of my palm off!
Damn.. what a punch!  But I hit my target!  (Which happened to be a part of a stump sticking out of the ice in the middle of the lake.) But one shot was all I wanted. That is one gun that should never be put into an inexperienced persons hands. His wife is a tiny little thing (102# dripping wet and he won't let her shoot it)

I also shot his Bushmaster M-4 with a 100 rd drum on it. It was huge fun! Plus some other cool ones that he had brought out.
Next time I get the nerve to shoot the 500 I will have someone take a picture.. LOL
