I buy latex gloves by the hundred too. I wear them when I'm hanging onto something and spray painting it.

If it's a concern, and your bench is metal, you can add a bleeder grounding cable to the mounting bolts, perhaps with isolation bushings to an exterior source. They also have non static mats that could work.

Hate the static "zaps", not so bad here in S. Fl, but with low humid areas, it couldn't hurt.

Gloves help, they also make static guard aerosols, that might help also.
