One of my troops bought a Taurus 1911 and after handling it I think it will be my next handgun purchase.

I've got a buddy that got the Taurus.  It shoots great, but I'd want the night sites.  I never had a problem with my Springer GI. All that being said I really, really like the feel of the Remington and the white dots are the size of basketballs.  For a $700 gun that would be the way I'd go, throw on a set of Crimson trace and eventully change out the sights for a set of tritiums.

I've got a Sig GSR 1911 and everyone who handles it raves about it. Worth a look.
I got the blues as my companion.

A friend of mine usually keeps guns around 6 months before trading, he has had his Taurus 1911 for almost 2 years.  ;D
