Only a blind man would fail to see the ignorance in the workforce under 40 years old these days.  Of course, there are exceptions but I've not met or worked with many.

Baby boomers, of which I am one, are retiring and taking their lifetimes experience with them.  Some young folks I work with don't even want me to spread my knowledge so they painfully make error after error, never learning from their own experiences.

My kid chose to work rather than attend college as a child.  She's at least seven years past most of her HS classmates who attended state schools.  Now she's taking classes and has a vested interest in getting the grades.  If she get's less than a C, she has to pay for the class, above that, it's free.  Paid by her employer...

I've learned to listen to the oldy guys. If you can get them to trust you they will show you all kinds of little tricks. Im 27 and I could run circles around people my age in the oilfield because of it. Firefightiing is the same way. Now if only I could teach my volunters there is a reason I get paid to do it.

You're the "exception" I was talking about.

I would not be where I am today if not for the older guys I've worked with.  My education had little to do with my so-called career path.  I watched, listened, argued and gained the respect of the men I've worked with.  My way ain't the only highway and I'm willing to listen to anyone with an idea.

My industry is full of people who THINK they know what they're doing but I don't care how long someone has been doing something if they've been doing it WRONG the whole time.

I have an older friend who, at 63 years of age can put most kids half his age to shame with his work ethic, his strength, his adaptability and his knowledge and intelligence.  When the younger guys are petered out, he's ready to work another eight hours.  He never went to college, never went to trade school and can recite Shakespeare from memory.  He does all this with a couple pieces of shrapnel in his back from the Tet offensive in Viet Nam...

Took me a year to gain his respect.  One of my proudest days was the day he came to ME for advice....

I really can't get too excited about this.  The media has access they just aren't allowed to live with them.  If I were a politician trying to get some work done on a retreat I would not want the media anywhere at any time. So I have no problem with the whole thing.  Actually I think that anytime someone can have a discussion and carry it over until after a meal or break without outside interference it is a good thing,

Never forget, the MSM, over the last several decades, has become their own monster. They actually believe they can dictate policy, sway public opinion, and "influence" politicians to vote or support a given position.

After Kennedy and especially getting to the Nixon admin, look at the tone of political press conferences. The press was empowered, they covered as long as they could for Pres. Clinton, they sympathize with Charlie Rangel, do an expose on the family life of Nancy Pelosi, talk about harry Reids humble beginnings,.....etc,....

However, they bash and condemn Republicans, encourage and expoloit non "civil" rhetoric, from the right, while carefully omitting the same crap from the left.

It's a spin doctor game, at our expense.

That's why I admired SecDef Rumsfeld, love em' or hate em' he treated the Press as the 7 year olds they are, confronted them when they asked a downright STUPID slanted question, and left them having a tantrum. They were going to bash him anyway.

Now their whining because the party THEY support doesn't want them around.
