Great place being born in Miami, and taking trips down with my Mom & Dad, the dog, my kid sister, and sometimes Aunt Edith,...kinda like National Lampoons Vacation at times but great memories.
After getting the hell out of Miami in the late 70's, the Keys kinda went weird in the 80's. The blow, the bags of "Florida Jewfish" that washed up on the beach, the scumbags, kinda crept in.
Than the 90's became more "culturally" diversified,....Rainbow Coalition established a foothold, even the wild chickens got freaked out.
So here we are, in the 21st century, what's old is kinda new, the blow and scumbags have been pushed back, the tourists and "alternative lifestyle" folks, retired 60's activists, and the next generation, along with the European tourists, kinda always make the Keys a "never a dull moment" place. The locals always do what they always do,.....go with the flow.....
All the famous bars are still there, albeit with new mgt./owners. but kept it in the old school tradition of the Keys.
As long as your buyin', your drinkin. Cops will run you off the beach at sunrise, but you can get a good
nap leaned up on the bulkhead.
