N82 Tactical Holster Mini Review
« on: February 18, 2011, 08:31:19 PM »
After reading and listening to Mr. Bane's take on this IWB holster. I ordered one. A full size. I have been carrying a weapon pretty much full time since 1998. Either as a Police, PI, or on the ranch. As I have gotten older. I have found myself going for the lighter and smaller pistol. Now in light of the current world events. I find that maybe one should be going for one that has more "water" onboard. But the full size can be a pain. I like the Glock. The Glock 17 seems to fit most of my applications. I do have a fondness for the Glock 37. Yea I know it will be a dead caliber in a few years. But, it is a sharpshooter. In my hands anyway. I carry a Glock 35 on duty. I have the standard rubbermaid box full of holsters that just did not work to well.  Ok. I received the holster today. 5 days from  initial order. Put it on. Put a Glock 17 in it. Went to work. On the ranch. Today I rolled off protein tubs. Off the back on the one ton flatbed. They weigh 250 pounds. I am up and down off the flatbed. In in out of the truck. Rolled the tubs some on the ground. Built some fence. Drove some steel posts. The holster stayed in place. Did not move one bit. I did have to hike up my pants some. But that is a anatomical issue on my part. No butt. It is extremely comfortable. Made carrying a full size pleasant. It conceals very good. I know that it is slow about re holstering. But, the weapon comes out fast. That is more of a issue for me. I am going to use it more to see how it holds up. The clip seems to be very strong. I was thinking about buying a Glock 26 for this summer. But, I think that this holster might have saved me some bucks. We will see how it goes. But, I like it so far. I have just ordered one for my 19ll's. Regards to all.

Welcome aboard Wray. I'd like to see a pic of the holster if you have a link to a catalog etc. As to the G26, I can't say enough good about it. Not much difference between it and the 17 accuracy wise out to 7 yards, which is mostly what matters, I just don't like the finger ridges, but its a small annoyance. I got a Don Hume IWB for mine last week and love it so far.

I have just ordered one for my 19ll's.

Wray, THANK YOU for a great review. I am interested in your thoughts after trying this with your 1911.

I'm kind of intrigued by the concept of this holster but wonder how well it performs in the summer time.  I tend to wear t-shirts a lot so this big hunk of neoprene would be up against bare skin and I am concerned about how hot that would get.  That is why I dislike a lot of the IWB holsters that are such huge pieces of leather.

Ichi...I think the neoprene is the liner.  I read that he uses leather on the outside belt line and suede against the body.  That leaves the neo for the inner liner, stiffened by the plastic rib.  I could be wrong though..

The suede outer is nice. Its why I kept my cheap Galco for so long. It was an inside out design, and incredibly comfortable. That said, it kind of sucked otherwise. I am glad I upgraded, though honestly, I wouldn't have if I wasn't forced to. I guess its why most of have that "box O' holsters". ;D

Going to revive an old thread if you all don't mind.
Between MB's review and mentioning on several podcasts and this review on Youtube form the Budget Armory

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfNoe98y9EE

I sprang for one for my GLOCK 26

It is everything you hear about - very very comfortable it truly DOES "disappear" on your hip shortly after putting it on.
I cleared the GLOCK and placed a full magazine in it and preceded to spend the weekend cutting two trees down and hand digging up the stumps in the back yard, and the only thing I noticed was it tended to self cant forward approx 15* which for me was actually MORE comfortable than the straight down position when  you first put it on.

I was apprehensive about the elastic material for retention, but after putting it on I realized that the Wilderness Tactical belt also becomes part of the retention laying through the belt clip and over the body of the pistol - the pistol never once shifted up or out or in any other direction the whole weekend while running the chain saw, ax, shovels and good ole manual labor of loading the cut logs in to the pick up.

 - side note - I also have a Crimson Trace laser on the 26 and it DOES NOT hinder the use of the holster at all.
I can provide a picture of the 26 in the holster if you would like.

As they state on the web site re-holstering is not a simple process which I found easiest to remove the holster re-set the pistol in the holster then remount the holster to my pants.
That may be a draw back for some, but for me not an issue at all.

Very well made, very good price, and would recommend to anyone trying to decide if they should purchase one.
