The Jordan Shoes...
« on: December 28, 2011, 07:14:18 AM »
I didn't see this topic anywhere else, so forgive if it's a dupe.

I guess most have seen the news footage of the mob/stampede related to the release of the Michael Jordan shoes. Many reports of injuries, gunfire (supposedly used by some to 'clear the line' so they could be first in), trampling, and even as the article link below states, people just stepping over trampled individuals on the ground because 'it was business..'

I guess it's a timely topic seeing as the next TBD episode deals with flash mobs. For me, having a natural aversion to crowds anyway, is yet another reason to do all my shopping via amazon.com. Kind of a eye opener for me because if people will go this crazy to buy a $200 pair of shoes, what's going to happen when a disaster takes place? Not mentioning the 'big scale' disasters like Katrina or such, but lower grade ones like a city's water supply getting knocked offline for a few days due to industrial accident, or, like we experienced here a couple of years ago, an overwhelming ice storm that knocked off power to thousands for weeks and made generators a very hot item. Even though I stay aware of my surroundings, it just shows me how close to the edge society stands in some people's eyes to have total disregard for others to get trivial items, like shoes, and not to mention live-sustaining items like water etc.

I don't post much on here. Mainly just surf and read others posts. Great forum. God Bless!

We were talking in another thread about this.

More specifically, how you don't see this type of "rioting" when a new Sperry Topsider model is introduced.

My Bro-gan pennyloafers, back in the day,...received no such attention either.... :-\

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.
