Anyone out there familiar with the Hanover, PA area?
« on: January 23, 2012, 08:51:35 PM »
We are moving to Hanover next month, and I was wondering if anyone in the forum has lived there or near there?

I'm looking for recommendations for ranges and gun shops to shop and work at.  I would like to try to get into the firearms industry, and figured the best way to do it is the same way I got into the photo industry - retail.

We don't want to move, but sometimes you do what you have to in a suckish economy.  Hopefully we'll be able to sell our house...eventually.

Thanks

Timothy

Hey, welcome to Pennsylvania.  That's a little far West from where I am for local knowledge, but Harrisburg and Lancaster gun shows are pretty good.  There is a huge Bass Pro Shop in Harrisburg with a large gun section.  There are a lot of local ranges in the area, most don't have websites or advertise.  Ask around at shops as most hunters probably belong to one or two.

It would be a little bit of a drive of you, but the gun club at New Holland is one of the best around that I've seen.  They have several shoots open to non members throughout the year.  3 Rifle ranges, one out to 600 yards, and at least 6 pistol areas.

Hi;

     I'm in the Harisburg area so all I can say is that it has some Civil War history, there are older buildings in the town due to that. The outside area is very decent for a family- nice homes and roads, open spaces. Quiet area and you are near Baltimore,Fredrick and DC if you want to get to the "Big City" atmosphere.  It's Kind of like the Altoona/Emmitsburg area.

     I fill in and make deliveries there 1-2 times a year and people were friendly to me - but then I was not there for long. They had a race riot there back in the late 80's and had a curfew for a few days - the issues were settled that I know of since it was news worthy only for a few days.

     Use the PA turnpike or 70,  Rt 30 is a narrow road in some places.

Don't know the area at all BAC but it's proximity to Gettysburg is interesting!

Can't wait for that.  My daughter is already planning a ghost tour.

Well, we started moving today (2 step process).  Already met the liberal old busy-body next door.  Oh, joy.
