Shame on us (Idaho) Dpt. of Trans.
« on: July 10, 2012, 02:24:42 PM »
I've had an N.R.A. License plate on my vehicle here in Idaho since inception ~ 5 years ago.
Today I received a letter in the mail that when my registration sticker runs out (June 30 2014) I will no longer be able to run the N.R.A. plate as not enough people purchased the "specialty plates" to warrant keeping them active.

State says - first three years is exempt but then in the next two consecutive years more than 1,000 need to be sold.

This sucks.

In 5 years they did not reach the minimum number of plate sales  >:(

Not that it matters but the 4 million folks in the NRA is nothing compared to the 80 million gun owners.  It's not surprising that people won't spend the extra cash for the plates.

My Veterans plates cost me an additional 90 bucks every two years here.  The money goes to the State Veterans charities which are woefully under budgeted by the socialist in the governors mansion.

I have never understood the compulsion to adorn ones car with political or other statements. Here in Virginia you can have any number of things on your license plate. It is a mild irritant to see license plates touting ones military medals. In my experience those that legitimately earned medals are generally quiet about them not sticking them up your nose by advertising on a car license plate.

That I am an Life member of the NRA is my business, I have no interest in advertising it on my car. If I thought that it was an effective recruitment tool I would have it painted on the doors and the trunk.

To each his own... but now the N.R.A. has lost another funding tool that was state wide.
They received a portion of the extra we paid to have the plate.

???  Just curious, did they tell you how many plates were required as the minimum?  HAS THAT NUMBER CHANGED RECENTLY?
Sorry, just don't trust the guberment.  Was a lawyer too long.
I used to be open minded but my brain kept falling out.

I have them because I'm proud to be a Veteran and maybe, just maybe, when I'm running 80 down the interstate, the cops just might give me a pass on the ticket.  I haven't had a ticket since 1985!

Here Veterans plates are 45 bucks more a year in addition to your normal registration.  If you're a Medal of Honor, Silver or Bronze star, Purple Heart or similar Naval medals, your plates are free.  I have no problem with that and it's no different than the dozens of folks I see wearing some sort of military ball cap.  I shake the hand of every Vet I see and always have

When my Dad lived in Me. he got his Silver star plate for free, I don't know about Idaho, but if it costs him anything it isn't very much.

The minimum was 1,000 plates in 5 years (really 2) as the first three years were exempt
We paid an extra $30/year for the "Special plate fee"

I too go out of my way to thank and shake anyone with a Vet designation shirt, hat, plate - hell even tattoo.

Just last week - My wife manages a few laundromats here in town, and some Patriot Guard riders rolled in to do some laundry - and while they were getting change in the dollar changer - she snuck over to their machines and started them for free with her keys....

The were dumbfounded.... she said - its one thing to say thank you ... another to show it.
(they bought her a Buskin and Robbins ice cream as a thank you - thank you.... oi )

You look after your own.

(I and she come from military families and I am U.S. Army)
