Speaking of clips
« on: September 05, 2012, 08:03:26 PM »
Has any one ever tried the 5.56 ten round strippers designed for AR-15 mags? They have some good deals on stuff produced in the UAE at Classic Arms. I was thinking that even if the ammo sucked, the clips could be a handy and cheap alternative to buying a bunch of mags if you coud recharge a spent mag speedy quick. Plus it would save weight if you were humping your gear.

There is an adapter you need to put on the top of the mag to hold the clip.
I've never had good luck with stripper clips in any caliber.
My experience is that the rounds always tip enough to lock in position.

I've had good luck with metal clips but I prefer a Thermold magazine loader for loose rounds or plastic clips. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=42523/avs%7CManufacturer_1=THERMOLD/Product/AR-15-M16-MAGAZINE-CHARGER

P.S. You can burn the stripper clips as emergency fuel sticks.

I bought 1k of IMI that was open end "boxes" of 30 rds loaded onto clips. Slip on a mag charger and it is by FAR the easiest/fastest way to load mags.
Push on the base of the round not the middle and they slide right in. I can load 6 30rd mags faster than it took to type this.
(not really a true comparison because I'm kinda buzzed on beer right now)  :P

Sounds like a cool way to go. Cheaper than Dirt has 10, 10 rounders for $2.83 and an adaptor for $9. Or you can get the Lula model for $26. Which adaptor have y'all used?

I have used stripper clips for my AR for many years.  As noted above, the secret is pressing down near the primer end of the cartridge, not the middle.  The adapter I use is the same type given to our military.  I think the vernacular for it is a "spoon."  Loading up a batch of stripper clips before heading to the range certainly reduces reload time, but on the down side, you will burn up a lot more ammo when it's this easy.

Some one needs to make a hand crank mag loader.   you know dump ammo in the top, turn the handle and instant loaded mag.   hmmm  I smell money to be made....

"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

A little pricey for my wallet, but it's on the list for future purchases, along with more mags.

 ;)

The one I was talking about is a hand held model developed for ten round clips. It goes for $27 give or take. Much more my speed. However, If I win the power ball I do intent to shoot enough ammo to make the $430 model a must buy. (Of course my gun bearer and ammo girl/masseuse and bar tender will be handling it so I won't need to worry about the weight).  ;D

If I win the Lottery I will be able to afford to have someone else load for me and let the mags lay on the ground empty...If I win the Lottery!!!
