Wow!
« on: November 06, 2012, 11:45:13 AM »
Just walked down the 11 houses with my son to vote.  There is 43 people in line.   I have never seen that before, the real shocker is about  1/3 of them are young people in their early 20s.   no matter the out come, that is a very good thing.   the poll works said itd been like that from 7 am when they opened.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

Every time I vote.... I always have to pause.. and inevitably the shiver comes down my spine when the gravity of what I was about to do or had just done.

We The People.

It echoes through my head.
I have been blessed by God to be born in the worlds greatest Federal Constitutional Republic
I think of those that cannot even understand the concept -
Those that WISH - and pray - that they too could have just a portion of what we take a plebeian task.

I also look at the news and see the lines - hear the stories of ordinary citizens willing to stand on line for 2 - 6 - 9+ hours to make their singular voice heard in the ocean of other voices.

I hope (or wonder if) they too get the shiver and realize just how unique and God blessed we are that by nothing more than happenstance get to live here and be We the People

I agree. I've voted in every election since I was 18, its old hat. But still today, feeding that ballot into the machine felt, final. It was a weighty thing. It left me realizing how serious a thing a vote is. It was sobering, but it felt good too.

I feel good about voting, personally...I enjoy it. I'm not all that excited about really high turnout though. It just means more stupid people are voting.

Not necessarily.  There have been a few reports noting that some younger people have become more informed and less interested in gov't interference and the way the economy is being handled.  They realize that all the money they are paying for school isn't going to be worth anything if they can't find jobs, or pay huge amounts of taxes.

80% voter turnout expected here in Ohio.  Can't remember if it has ever been projected that high.

My precinct in Ohio;  I just left after having voted.  I was #495.  As I was passing the precinct table while leaving, I heard them announce #500, and there was still a line.  Normally, my # is in the high 100's, low 200's (yeah, I keep track of stuff like that) even during the election that saw Obummer win.  Can't get the vibe on the vote this year.  Usually, I can tell how the vote will swing.  Not happening this time.
