...saying "You can't make this **** up!"

Arizona police officer asked not to wear uniform at daughter’s school

Published October 03, 2013/
FoxNews.com

A police officer who dropped off his daughter at her Phoenix elementary school was asked by the school’s principal not to wear his uniform to the school because other parents were concerned that he was carrying a gun, MyFoxPhoenix.com reported.

Scott Urkov is a police officer for the Coolidge Police Department. The department told him not to comment to media inquiries, but immediately after he received the no-uniform request, he posted on Facebook.

"Nothing like your kids school calling and asking if I could not come to pick up my daughter in uniform cause parents were concerned when their kids came home telling them there was a man at school with a gun, “ he posted. “Are you freaking kidding me?"

His daughter attends Entz Elementary School, which is in the Mesa Unified School District.

A district spokeswoman told the station that "some parents" voiced concern about seeing a fully armed police officer on the school’s campus. The spokeswoman apologized that Urkov perhaps took the discussion the wrong way.

"It was not the intent of the principal to offend him," the spokeswoman said.

"Well I was a little surprised," said parent Blaine Spencer. "I think that it's his right to wear that in public. Even if my kids saw that I think they'd feel more protected to see a man in uniform at their school."

Meanwhile, school officials' initial reaction was to ask the officer not to wear his gun and uniform to school, they are now saying they want to turn this incident into "a teachable moment."

They invited the officer to a special assembly to talk about what police officers do for the community.

Show up naked, badge pinned through the skin yelling, "This is my weapon, this is my gun, this is for fighting, this is for fun!" with appropriate gropes added.
You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

School officials want to turn this into a teachable moment?  There are two ways you could go about this.

Teachable moment #1:
Gun safety and marksmanship training.  With signed permission slip, of course.

Teachable moment #2:
All school officials who agreed with this or ordered it are fired on the spot.  It will teach them to stop being such reactionary ninnies.
Bravery and stupidity are often synonymous.  So are cowardice and intelligence.

"We Americans have been a rebellious band of freedom loving vagabonds from the very beginning. Our freedom from the crown and tyranny would not exist had it not been for the gun. That's a tradition we like to hold on to.  The same can't be said for the rest of you 'Subjects of the Queen'."--said to a Canadian friend who just doesn't get it.

I will say seeing a police car parked in front of my granddaughter daycare one afternoon did give me pause.  But then I realized the officer was picking up his daughter.  No big deal.

I had to read that first sentence a few times. It's still so stupid I can't believe it.
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. I think if I was that cop and asked to speak after that incident I'd probably tell the principle to piss off.

And Arizona is an Open Carry state.

I've oc'd a .40 cal Glock into my Wells Fargo Bank and a .357 to Wal-Mart, both in Mesa, with no problems.

Hard to believe ANYONE would get their panties in a knot over a cop in uniform carrying a side arm.

We are truly through the freaking looking glass.

just becuase they wear a badge does not mean they are good guys.   i think its a joke that they can ccw anywhere, but normal people can not.   they should fallow the same rules as every one else.   both on and off the job.   just think how much of a uproar there would be if they had to use 10 round mags or bullet button ars?   i am a very firm beleaver in rules being applied equally.
