You be the judge.
Sounds like a deterent to me.
The merits of death penalty deterrence is dubious IMHO and I stopped being in favor of it when innocent people were released from death row...and not just by pardons. By DNA proof they didn't do the crime.
This POS however doesn't fit my criteria.
"More than a decade later, DNA evidence confirmed McGuire's guilt, and he acknowledged his responsibility in a letter to Kasich last month.""McGuire's lawyers had attempted last week to block his execution, arguing that the untried method could lead to a medical phenomenon known as "air hunger" and could cause him to suffer "agony and terror" while struggling to catch his breath.""Prison officials gave intravenous doses of two drugs, the sedative midazolam and the painkiller hydromorphone, to put McGuire to death"They snowed him with Versed and overdosed him with Dilaudid.
IV Versed causes amnesia and the Dilaudid stopped his breathing like an overdose of heroin or morphine. Why they didn't give him a dose of any number of neuromuscular blockers (causing paralysis) is lost on me. There would have been no
"10 minutes of irregular breathing and gasping." After treating so many heroin od's that I lost count and turning them into awake and breathing patients, I can guaranfuckingtee he didn't suffer shit.
Even if the Governor called and gave him a full pardon mid-procedure, some Narcan would have reversed the od and he
STILL wouldn't have remembered any of it.
