Botched or Advertised Deterent?

You be the judge.

Quote
Lawyer says Ohio killer's execution was botched...

McGuire's lawyers had attempted last week to halt his execution, arguing that the untried method could lead to a medical phenomenon known as "air hunger" and cause him to suffer "agony and terror" while struggling to catch his breath.

McGuire, 53, made loud snorting noises during one of the longest executions since Ohio resumed capital punishment in 1999. Nearly 25 minutes passed between the time the lethal drugs began flowing and McGuire was pronounced dead at 10:53 a.m. ...

Sounds like a deterent to me.

The whole lethal injection method is a joke, IMHO. Using different chemicals to induce different bodily  reactions, all to incite death, is over and above necessity. Not that the intended criminal is worthy of a humane death (that's another argument, for another day), but a simple "hot" dose of straight morphine will do the trick, and they won't care.

As to the question, they probably don't have the intelligence or sense to use it as a deterrent..... I'd vote for botched because it makes more sense.  ;D
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

The merits of death penalty deterrence is dubious IMHO and I stopped being in favor of it when innocent people were released from death row...and not just by pardons. By DNA proof they didn't do the crime.

This POS however doesn't fit my criteria.
"More than a decade later, DNA evidence confirmed McGuire's guilt, and he acknowledged his responsibility in a letter to Kasich last month."
"McGuire's lawyers had attempted last week to block his execution, arguing that the untried method could lead to a medical phenomenon known as "air hunger" and could cause him to suffer "agony and terror" while struggling to catch his breath."
"Prison officials gave intravenous doses of two drugs, the sedative midazolam and the painkiller hydromorphone, to put McGuire to death"

They snowed him with Versed and overdosed him with Dilaudid.
IV Versed causes amnesia and the Dilaudid stopped his breathing like an overdose of heroin or morphine. Why they didn't give him a dose of any number of neuromuscular blockers (causing paralysis) is lost on me. There would have been no "10 minutes of irregular breathing and gasping."

After treating so many heroin od's that I lost count and turning them into awake and breathing patients, I can guaranfuckingtee he didn't suffer shit.
Even if the Governor called and gave him a full pardon mid-procedure, some Narcan would have reversed the od and he STILL wouldn't have remembered any of it.
You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.
