Barnaul Ammo Question
« on: November 19, 2008, 11:06:50 AM »
I am looking at some 5.56 at Widner's http://www.wideners.com/itemview.cfm?dir=18|830|845 (122 for 500).

My question is is it Boxer primed (reloadable) or Berden primed?

All of their ammo was laquered steel cases. Doesn't that mean you can't reload it? They use Berdan primers anyway.

Yes, you CAN reload steel case ammo but it does not seem to last as many reloads as brass.

OK, if it is Berden then I don't want it.  I'll keep looking for some 5.56.

Thanks!

Pardon my ignorance, but I don't know what the difference is. ???

Boxer - one primer hole in the middle of the case where the decapper can pop it out. The anvil is built into the primer. Invented in England and used in America.

Berdan - two primer holes off center so you can't pop the primer out. The anvil is built into the case. Invented in America and used in England. Is that weird, or what?

So boxer primed the better choice I take it? If you want to reload.  ???  Oh, and thanks!  :)

Yep, if you want to reload you want boxer.  I have a commercial reloader here and if ya bring yer brass he gives you a discount.  That is why I wanted to know.
