Saltydogbk,
My wife just had this surgery on Oct 14. So, I can't give you her details on how long the recovery will take. They told us no driving for at least six weeks and six months plus recovery time. At this point the surgery seems to be a success.
We put up a hospital bed in the family room with the TV. So she wouldn't have to go up the stairs as often and could be in the middle of things.
She is a tough lady and is healing well. She does not take kindly to being in bed all the time and has started doing and overdoing stuff. Yesterday I took her to the Commissary for shopping. She had to switch to one of the Amigo self propelled shopping carts they have for handicapped after about 20 mins with a push cart. But she made it through OK but felt the effects later in the day. The trip to the base is about 30 mins from our house. So, we were out a long time. Today she is happy to stay in bed and sleep and recover.
Good luck with your surgery. Follow the doctor's orders and take the darn pain pills they prescribe. You will suffer more if you don't.
By the way, it is tough to try to read lying on your back. My wife gave up on it.
