Gun refinishing
« on: November 08, 2008, 01:19:55 AM »
I just purchased a Romanian AK and like most of the AKs I've seen, it came with some surface blemishes even though it is "new".  I plan on just oiling the furniture, but I would also like to refinish the reciever/barrel.  I would feel more comfortable having a gunsmith perform this task and was wondering if anyone knew the going rate for this kind of work.  (Don't want to get ripped off if I can help it.)  Also, which would be the best blend of cost effectiveness and durability: parkerizing, dura coat, hot blueing, etc.?  I don't really want to invest a great deal of money in refinishing an AK, I mean it is an AK, but then again, I'm sort of anal retentive about my firearms.  As always, any help is much appreciated.
