Posted this on the website:
I went through that with MY kids, but it wasn't guns. Who are the parents? What do they do? Are the parents going to be home?
It's not a gun problem it's a parenting problem. The odds are INFINITELY higher that your kid will go somewhere and be molested or be given drugs or alcohol, or be killed in a car with someone else who's been drinking, or see porn, or eat that evil FAST FOOD that's next thing on the PC list, before they ever SEE a gun. Gun owners for the most part are responsible people and teach their children gun safety.

Statistically, guns are the least of your problems.
I'm a gun owner and I have to say that I'm personally offended by the photo used for the article too. I get the willys from photos like that- in fact THAT is a bad example. Great editor.

+1...I couldn't agree more.

There are just so many variables to just focus on guns (I know that is what we focus on here, I'm talking in general). Yesterday, here in southern Georgia, there were three different cases of people being attacked by dogs. In one case, a small child (5 yrs, I believe) was mauled to death by her parent's three pit bulls.

What if there had been more kids over playing at the same time?

My wife and I always played the '20 question' (or more) game before allowing my boys to go to a friends house. Fortunately, I grew up with many of their friend's parents (small town) but that still don't keep them 100% safe. I really didn't have to worry about them too much because they didn't stay off from home much. 90% of the time their friends stayed over here, and that was better for me. It was much easier for me to worry about providing a safe environment than worrying about someone else doing it.

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison
