Jim Cirillo
« on: July 13, 2007, 11:38:59 AM »
I read on another forum that famed gunwriter, trainer and stakeout squad guy Jim Cirillo died in an automobile accident in upstate NY over the past few days.

Anyone else hear this?

I just got off the phone with mutual friends, and I honestly don't know what to say.

Jim is...was...a close friend and in many ways a mentor to me. We had all thse projects we were going to do, and there's just never any goddamned time.

More later.

Michael -

You take a lot of ribbing on this website, and you have been a good sport about it. But this has been a particularly tough week for you, losing two good friends in car accidents, so now is a little time for friendship.

I wanted to express my condolences to you on the loss of these two compadres of yours, and pray that their families find peace in this very tough time for each of them.

It's a sad day for the shooting community

Thank you, all.

I spoke today with Bob Morrison, head of Taurus and another good friend. "I guess God needed a gunfighter," he said.

It has been a hard week.

Back in the 1990s, I was heavy into the fast food restaurant business, and had been robbed more than once.

I was concerned what I would do if some goblin drew and started shooting in my restaurant. I got his gunfighting book, and it got my mind right about what I could do and what I couldn't.

I put him up there with Hack, Jeff Cooper and Massad Ayoob as my influences as a street savvy person.

Sad day indeed, Much comfort to all his family, and friends, ( Michael included ),  I called my 2 friends who would know who Jim is, and they were both saddened. One writes for SWAT magazine and tells me that  his next article, a tribute, to Jim. I read of Jims exploits in my youth, and his ideas and wisdom. He was also a revolver fan, and I love that. That one article on a wide mouth, hollow point with serrations at the end, full wadcutter jacketed .44 mag as his ultimate one shot manstopper, i've never forgotten.
