Heard my Dad talk about doing that with the 1911, said it worked great. some how I don't think it would be so "great" for the pistol.  But that is the Marine Corps approach to problems, adapt, improvise, overcome !  ;D

On Friday night I went on a Walmart raid. I found out that Walmart makes deliveries to stores in my area on Friday, usually in the late afternoon. But before I went there I raided Gander Mountain and cleaned them out of 9mm Blazer ammo.

I went to one store and bought a case of 9mm WWB and the clerk told me he had five cases and he had sold out in 90 minutes. At another store I was able to get 500 rounds of .45 ACP WWB, same type of buying frenzy. The one cartridge I did notice that was not in short supply was .40 S&W.

While there I heard several people talking about how they were coming back to the shooting sports because the were afraid of what Obama might do. And the ammo tax seemed to be one of the main reasons for their worry. I told some that the tax was not going anywhere in the congress but the wanted to make sure they had something just in case, which I thought was a good idea.

All of this taught me some valuable lessons:
1. Buy ammo when you don't need it.
2. Start reloading and stock up on components as they become available. This is sort of tied to number one.....

I have bought some powder, primers, and bullets from my local gun range. When I go back there on Saturday I will accumulate some more.

I wonder how long before this will slow down. I will take a WAG and say it will be the summer before things settle down.....

I'm thinking the threat will not go away as long as the Dems control congress, it may taper off as production catches up to demand, but it will continue to be on peoples minds until at least 2010.

There are only TWO events when having too much ammo is bad,....

1. When you are on fire.

2. When you are drowning.

Other than that, FullAuto,,,you nailed it.

All of this taught me some valuable lessons:
1. Buy ammo when you don't need it.
2. Start reloading and stock up on components as they become available. This is sort of tied to number one.....

Words of wisdom.

"I hear that small arms ammunition in South Africa has practically disappeared from the store shelves. Either people are wisely stocking up, or some arm of the government has decided to cut off the supply. In that regard, I advise you to keep your own stocks in good shape. Our enemies may not be able to abrogate the constitution just yet, but there are economic and political means by which they may dry up our ammunition supply."
Jeff Cooper
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.
