Sent this smug a hole a e mail;
You are despicable and uninformed.
You are despicable for using the deaths of these Oakland Officers to push your anti Constitution agenda. These Officers gave their lives taking a violent felon off the streets to protect the rest of us and you have so little respect for them that you would use their deaths for political purposes.
You are either ignorant of the law, or intellectually dishonest to blame the guns for the actions of a violent criminal. This dirtbag was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon, he was there fore a "prohibited person" secondly, according to your article he used an "assault weapon" ( there is no such thing, there IS a category called assault RIFLE that is defined strictly as SELECT FIRE [not semi automatic] intermediate caliber carbine)
He was committing a Federal felony just by being in the same PLACE as a fire arm so apparently your gun laws against semi autos didn't impress him very much.
Your existing gun laws and the laws against murder didn't stop this guy so you want to pass more laws for his type to ignore ? Are you stupid or just a really slow learner ?
If you want to prevent this type of incident KEEP THE FELONS IN PRISON WHERE THEY BELONG instead of passing more laws that will only effect people who don't commit crimes.

I prefer to say: were you born stupid or did you have to learn it?

I was riding the fence on Tom's reply and the reaction it brought.  Couldn't think of what to say or how I felt about it until a few minutes ago -

I received a telemarketer call on the office phone (one of those that starts with a recorded message and gives you the choice of "talk to them by pressing 1 or remove from list by pressing 2).  I usually listen all the way through for the chance to press 2.  However, this one said the the were "working in conjunction with our local Chamber of Commerce," and they "knew that I/we were having difficulty making even our minimum credit card payments."  Bul****!!!  I punched 1 and confronted the answerer for being a part of a business that was lying about our community and our business.  He didn't care and ridiculed me for not just pressing 2.  Wrong Fuckin thing to say to me this bright shining morning!

Most of the time we need to turn the other cheek, use honey to atract flies, put out fires with kindness (insert your own polite happy face here), and sometimes we need to call BS on someone.

Not saying that what Tom did was the best or most appropriate thing in this situation, but since Tom does a lot of this and does a very good job of it, I can't condem this one that isn't a feel good PC reply.

Keep up the good work Tom!

Nope. You have to win the argument and shut them up with facts. You cant let things digress into juvenile name calling and shouting matches.

+1. Here are some myth debunking facts in ready-for-reporters-to-use format:

Now send it to the reporter so he can have some facts for his next article.

I send that reference to writers who are simply uninformed, and politicians. But I forgot until after I hit the send key  ;D

I thought it was a cute e mail. I hope the 4th grader who wrote this article ( in the soon to be defunct S F Chronicle ) actually reads it. After he loses his job maybe he can get a job he is supremely qualified for, cleaning port-a-potties. Put that nasty tongue of his to good use.
