The US miltary just spent big bucks buying new guns, they won't be buying again anytime soon.  Even at miltary prices, there are plenty of other manufactors that can drasticly under cut them.   the most recent dust test, the normal M16/M4/ M what ever they want to call it  did extremly well, infact it did better then some of the new piston designs.  So even if the US miltary was looking for a new rifle/ carbine.  They would not look at a rifle that costs twice as much as what they already have.

The Marines are looking to replace the M-16/M4  Scar is on the shortlist.
TAB, you need to remember they are cheaper by the 100,000

I know, colt and FN sell thier M XXX for around $500 each.  I don't think ruger could do that with a piston gun.

arn't the marines limited to like 250k active marines?  so at most they would buy what 350k of them?( if that more like 100k)

Don't miss the bigger picture here guys. Ruger is seeing this for what it really is from a business standpoint, and that is PROFITABILITY! If a gun company wants to make money in todays market they have no choice but to get into the black rifle market. Remington, Smith & Wesson, and now Ruger are seeing this solid fact. $2,000.00 Gold Label S X S shotguns aren't selling, but $2,000.00 AR-15's ARE, be they piston driven or D.I. Bushmaster, LWRC, Stag Arms, DPMS, Armalite, and a host of others are all back ordered for months on most every single model they sell.

Even the non AR-15 semi's like Springfield's M-1A and Sig Arms 556 are selling like hotcakes, some priced well above retail. At the Cabela's near me these models last for only minutes on the rack before they are sold. It would be sheer stupidity for Ruger to ignore this market. This is the salvation the gun industry has been waiting for in this country. Winchester proved when they tanked, people don't want lever action rifles. At least to nowhere near the degree they want AR-15's and other semi auto black rifles.

The same with Hi-Cap semi auto pistols compared to double action and single action revolvers. The semi's outsell all of the wheel guns. Whatever Hussein doesn't like, or want you to have, is exactly what the gun manufacturers should be producing, simply because it is what We The People want. That always counts more because the government may print the money in this country, but we are the ones who give it VALUE! Hussein along with the rest of his socialist followers had best remember that.   Bill T.

U are right about the black guns "selling in minutes"! Doesn't matter what we have S & W M&P 15 "stripped or loaded", SIG 556 is in right now, Bushmaster OAC and ever Remington R-15 are back. We haven't seen Rems in 3 months. There are folks from EVERY walk of life gobbling them up
Handguns of every type sell well 2 my place

Were these California-ized AR's?

Affordable as in 2K? I'd like to live in your neighborhood. As far as the minis, if they go back to the five to six hundred they should cost, I might buy one.

I'm with you. I'd like to have a newer Mini. Mine was under $300 brand new (1985) with the original Ruger folding stock. I love it. It shoots well, but the new ones are just a little nicer and have integrated scope bases.

The days of new $500.00 Mini 14's and $600.00 AR-15's have gone the way of $1.00 a gallon gas. Good for barroom talk and not much else. I remember back in 1973 I paid $225.00 for a brand new, in the box Colt Gold Cup .45. An NRA Commemorative no less. Today a bare bones Gold Cup is a Grand+. It's all of little consequence anymore. The guys who won't pay $750.00 for a new Mini 14 or $1,000.00 for a new AR-15 are the same guys who were going to quit smoking when cigarettes hit $2.00 a pack. Now they stand in line to pay $5.00+. It all relative, and subject to supply and demand. Prices will level off, and may even go down a bit as demand tapers off. But the days of bargain basement prices on black guns is gone. Same with a lot of ammo as well.   Bill T.

Well, if you want to modernize, I'll give you the same $300, OR trade you a fine Browning squareback, AND a very nice Hoyt bow. ;D
