A WHITE supremacist has opened fired at a Holocaust museum, leaving a security guard dead while panicked visitors ran for cover.

CNN and NBC both reported that the guard died from his injuries after being rushed to hospital following the attack in Washington.

The gunman was in critical condition after being wounded by return of fire when two other security guards moved in to halt the attack in the packed museum, not far from the White House.

The gunman has been named by television networks as James von Brunn, 88, who has known links to white hate groups and anti-government organisations. But officials have not yet confirmed his identity.

Panicked tourists scattered, ducked and took cover as the shots rang out in the museum entrance shortly after noon local time.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier said: "It appears to be a lone gunman who entered into the museum and opened fire with what appears to be a rifle at this point."


Mr Brunn has written books on the Holocaust, Adolph Hitler, and his views on white superiority including Tob Shebbe Goyim Harog, which his website calls "the culmination of his life's work".

In a recent posting on his blog, he railed that "America is a Third-World racial garbage-dump - stupid, ignorant, dead-broke, and terminal".

Police and the FBI said they had no warning of the attack.

Mayor Adrian Fenty said: "An armed gunman came into the entrance and immediately opened fire striking one security guard. There was fire, gunfire returned. The gunman was hit."

Angela Andelson, 22, visiting from San Francisco was walking toward the exit of the Holocaust Memorial museum when she heard a loud bang "like someone had dropped something".

"So I kind of turned to look," she said. "And I see all these security guards kind of like ducking. I kind of glanced again and saw a gunman coming in (carrying) a long looking kind of gun.

"I just ran in to one of the exhibits to try to take cover.

"People were screaming and ducking down getting on the floor, getting under benches."

Another witness, Maria Hernandez, was with her grandparents walking through the exhibits which chronicle the Holocaust and the genocide of six million Jews under the Nazis.

"We were in the exhibit 'Remember the Children' and we heard rounds fired and through the glass doors I saw a security guard firing towards the shooter and a man on his belly on the floor and when I looked back again, we were heading toward the exit, I saw blood all over the floor," she said.

"He was hit real bad."

The FBI said it had sent members of a special response squad for the capital to support the police.

"We will be working through the night to develop the facts," an FBI spokesman said.

It's such a terrible story.  Such hate being harbored by people, I guess he was too big a pussy to do this twenty years ago when he could have spent some real quality time in jail.

Phil, your point about the gun free zone is a good one.  Once again proving that such laws only ensure that the bad guys have 'em.

  I posted the link in the other thread about this, but for a quick recap, he WAS jailed a couple times for attempting to take hostage or kidnap the members of the Federal reserve board, but American judges do not seem to like putting violent offenders away for to long as their "skills" may get rusty.

That quote is from Paul Helmke at the Brady Bunch.  What he and all the other anti-2A people can't get their tiny little pea brains wrapped around is that "gun-free" and "safe" are mutually exclusive.  In fact, his term "gun free and safe" is an oxymoron.....muc like military intelligence and jumbo shrimp.  You can't have both!!!!

It never ceases to amaze me that these Brady asshats:

1)  Never pass up the opportunity to prostitute the tragedies suffered by others to further their agenda.

and 

2)  Can't seem to understand that one of the reasons this sh*t happens in gun-free zones is that the BG knows DAMN well that they will be able to run up as big a body count as they desire, with ZERO fear of retaliation.

You notice though, Va Tech WAS a gun free zone, 32 dead, Holocaust Museum wasn't and only 1 dead. The brady bunch should be charged as accessories to murder in every mass shooting that takes place in a gun free zone.
