Teach you kids better!!!
« on: August 09, 2009, 02:35:17 AM »
About 1:30 this morning, an hour ago, I'm driving home from a friend's house after watching the UFC fight, not a big fan but a fight's a fight, and turning in on my road after getting off the interstate I see a Jeep following close behind me.  Too close actually, so I changes lanes to the right.  It passes and as I turn off my brights I see that there's four girls riding in it, ten over the limit.  They don't turn their brights on even though there's zero opposing traffic, even if they did I'm sure it wouldn't have help.

Thirty seconds after passing me they see a deer crossing the road, they slow down as if they are going to give it time to pass.  Their daddies never told them that deer almost always, without exception, cross in groups.  They couldn't stop fast enough to not hit the next one.  Going about 15 they hit this deer as it crosses to the right, the deer doesn't go under the car but around the front, as it had picked up momentum to evade the Jeep.  They STOP ten feet from the deer and the girl in the passenger side GETS OUT of the Jeep on a dark ass road 1:30 AM on a Saturday when all the drunks are out and starts walking towards the deer, that's currently thrashing about on the ground, while leaning down like she's going to give it some magic healing touch.  Buy this time I've checked my mirrors, no cars in sight, so I put my hazards on and have stopped five feet behind them in the lane to the right.  Windows rolled down, I tell the girl to stop and don't touch the deer, and yet she keeps walking.  So I yell, 'stop right now, and get back in your car or that deer's gonna jump up kick you in the head and kill you!!!'  Crying, 'but we h h h hit it.'  A couple other girls are crying in the Jeep that's currently running with no top, all can't be but 16 or 17.  By this time the does calmed a bit, and is just lying, looking around, when the girl ask, 'should I move it out of the road?'  And as I discovered that they're all just a little girls, I quickly explain, 'it's just stunned, get in your car and it'll get up in a minute and leave.  Pull into that next street and check you car for damage.'

They do just that, I pull in front of them to help check for damage and their well being, I assume that 16 years old weren't wearing seat belts and the quick stop could have injured someone.  For some reason everyone decides they need to pile out to get a better look.  I ask if anyone's hurt, 'no.  Were just scared.'  While check their Jeep, mainly for tire damage, I don't give a damn about cosmetics, I take the time to yell the reason why you don't stop in the middle of the road at 1:30 on a Saturday morning, approach a thrashing wild animal with hooves, and that deer never cross one at a time.  I left them with, 'get in you car, go home, don't go back by that deer, have a nice evening, be careful.'

Please don't let you kids be this stupid, don't just think you know they aren't, make sure.  And don't let you 16-17 years old girls drive around late as Hell on a Saturday night.

Now I don't know if a deer can kick you in the head a kill you, but that's what some old guy told me at hunter safety ten years ago.  I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt, and wasn't prepared to let that little girl get her leg, or any other limbs, split open just because I didn't want to yell at a kid.

Kids are one huge ass liability!!!

Have never seen a person killed by a kick for a deer, but have read reports of antlers killing and huge gashes from hooves.  Based on how little of a blow in the wrong place at the wrong time can kill ... Yes a deer hoof could kill.

Good Job TB!

We also need to remember, and I hate saying this because libs claim I'm admitting that Hillary is right in her book, even good parents need help at the appropriate time.  We can buy them books and buy them books, but we aren't always there when they're chewing the corners off.

Nothing liberal about saying it takes a village, its just the truth. Growing up if I did something dumb or destructive (not that I ever did 8)) I knew that my neighbors would yell at me first, then call my folks. We'd be better off with more of that these days. If I were those girls dad I'd thank you TB.

Remember that the hooves of a full grown deer are basically bone and they can and will rear up and kick.  Remember the video of a few years ago when a guy got his ass kicked by a deer in his backyard?  Without a doubt they could kill a human being or worse, stove in the side of your head and turn you into a veggie!

You did the right thing TB, keep up the good work and when you (if you don't already) have kids of your own, give them all the knowledge and tools that you've learned and been taught.  Most kids that grow up in and around urban areas have no clue how to handle these things.

I taught my daughter AND my wife about the "travel in groups" by example.  I live in the country and see deer and other critters every fall.

Well done!

Being even more hardcore about Jeeps than I am about guns, I have to say how much teh Barbie effect makes me sick.  16 year old girls have no business in a TJ (i assume thats what it was anyway).  And even I am not dumb enough to drive in TX without highbeams and at least another set of high power IPF driving lights.  I am just glad their ignorance (and their parenst shortcomings) didnt result in something disasterous.

A friends brother was kicked in the stomach by a "tame" deer at a campground.  He nearly died and was hospitalized for several weeks as a result of the kick.  They were hand feeding the deer and when they ran out of food to give them the deer became aggressive.
