Very nice TW. Rockwell may have not gotten his props as an artist. In fact, he was more of an editorial cartoonist with oils. But what his critics didn't get was that this was the point. Like every great cartoonist, he could capture an ideal, a moment, a value with no words, just a picture. I am the last person to be nostalgic for the fifties, as being a Southerner, I understand how happy those days were not for too manyfolks. That being said, it does seem that we have thrown the baby out with the bath water. Hell, half those paintings could have been used as BO campaign posters and that's a good thing. We need to stop being so cynical and embarrassed about our values and start to realize that, properly understood, they are inclusive of everyone and we denigrate them at our peril. Rant over. Nice post.
