Tried out a LCR and an old Security Six

I have an old security six dated back to the 70's.  It was my father's gun.  Me and my shooting buddies call it old faithfull and you would have to see it to know what I'm talking about. 

In the 70's, my father kept numerous guns in the basement, one of them being the security six.  Durring a bad storm, we lost power and the basement flooded.  It was 3 days before everything subsided and he recovered his pistols.  Those in the flood were a couple of Rossis', which totally seized and his security six, which although rusted, still worked.  He ended up giving the local gunsmith the Rossi's but kept the security six, thinking he would tinker with it. 

All he did was douse it in hoppes, dry fire and dry.  The blueing got destroyed and the internals showed some rust but it still worked.  The barrel was pitted but not that bad.  30 years later, this gun still shoots, and fairly accurate still to boot.  I've never got around to contacting ruger to have a look at it and possibly re-blue it because functionally, it still works.  I would like to pass it on to one of my kids one day and will maybe get it reblued then but for now, it's fine.

The security six is actually what I use when I'm testing loads that will be used in one of my pythons.  It's buiilt like a tank, has not lost it's timing, and with the original stocks, handles very well.  As ugly as it's gotten, I would never let it go.

My first handgun, purchased 33 years ago, and still one of my favorites. It is in my nightstand right now. I love my Security-Six. The only additions are the new sights that I put on her and the elk grips.

I'd like to try a LCR. I've heard very mixed reviews on recoil.
I can load the Security-Six with .357s and shoot her one handed all day long. Recoil is almost nothing in these solid steel tanks.
