Depp to play Tonto.
« on: September 14, 2009, 12:13:53 PM »
ANAHEIM, California - Johnny Depp, Miley Cyrus, John Travolta, Tim Burton, Nicolas Cage and the Muppets are all set to appear in upcoming Disney films, and they came to the Anaheim Convention Center to tell fans in person.

They joined Walt Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook on Friday at the D23 Expo, Disney's answer to Comic-Con, for a presentation on the studio's forthcoming film slate.

Depp was welcomed with raucous applause as he sailed onstage in a pirate ship dressed as Capt. Jack Sparrow. He staggered about and embraced Cook, who announced that "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" would be released in the summer of 2011. Depp will also play Tonto in a big-screen adaptation of "The Lone Ranger," Cook said.

LOL ;D

We haven’t decided who is going to play the Lone Ranger yet. Get a director first and
then figure it out,” he said in a published interview.
That leaves open some wide speculation as to who will wear the mask and ride the
great, white stallion. If Bruckheimer knows, he’s playing his cards close to his vest.
According to the Ineternet Movie Data Base Web site, the movie is executive produced
by Chad Oman and Mike Stenson, who work often with Bruckheimer.
As for Depp, the only confirmed actor at the time of this writing, he claims to be part
Indian.
According to his profile on IMDB, “He has said in interviews that he is of Cherokee, Irish,
and German descent, with some Navajo as well. Asked the origin of his last name by
James Lipton on Inside the Actors Studio, Johnny Depp said his name means ‘idiot’ in
German.”

Lou Diamond Phillips, overlooked again! Oh well, I do like Johny Depp, but as to playing Tonto, how hard can it be? Please indulge me and listen to Lyle Lovett's If I Had A Boat to summarise the Tonto Lone Ranger Dynamic. For those who don't like Tx. country music, Keemosabe =kiss my ass white boy! ;D

You and me both. For the record, Lyle is a serious quail hunter. He shopped at MacBride's Guns in Austin. I was behind him line when he wasd dropping 18K on a pair of 28 gauge SxS shotguns (I was buying two boxes of #8s). I didn't catch what brand they were but I do remember they were Spanish (probably AYA). The thing is, as an impoverished grad student who could barely afford shells for dove season, I had to congratulate him on his purchase and say that we all thought she'd just married him for his looks. He looked at me for a minute, I said She's not from Texas, and he laughed his ass off.  I got an invite with backstage pass to a concert in San Antone that I couldn't make, but I will say, that Lyle seems like the real deal, just a Tx. boy with a twisted sense of humor. Good Days, and God bless Tx.!
