Thanks For The Advice!
« on: October 20, 2009, 08:16:42 AM »
We, wife, son and I, went to a large public event a little while back, and I have meant to express my thanks to Rob and crew for an old lesson remembered.

On one of the range exercises RB and MJ were doing an exercise where one family member was armed and the other was not.  The unarmed person held the belt of the armed person.  We were in a large stadium, the giant bubble we call the Metro Dome, and with 50,000+ all trying to leave at once it was a mess.  The Dome is different than any other stadium I've been in, but I'm sure Detroit is similar.  With air pressure used to hold the roof up there are limited exit doors at games end - The main doors are revolving, but if you use a regular door the air pressure actually pushes you out with authority.

We were having a hard time sticking together in the crowd, wife didn't want to lead with me on her backside, and she had a hard time keeping contact when following.  That is until I had her just take a firm grip of my belt, and I drug her through.  I remember doing this with my dad when I was young and had forgotten until seeing it, or a version of it, on the show this fall.

Thanks again for the useful advice!  This stuff is more usable than most of us ever dream until we adapt it for "everyday life."

Wow, I haven't remembered stuff like that in years...

My Father used to have us "train up" latching on to belt loops, belts, etc,... and not letting go...Disney World, Dolphins Football Games, concerts, etc,...My younger sister would whine, and I would have to grab her by the arm, face, whatever, (we were kids),
once I put a bruise on her wrist, as she was 6 or 7, and let go of my belt, and I spun and grabbed the first thing I saw, which was her lanky little arm.  She survived, and we kept the "train" goin,....

Time and a place for everything,... ;D not the Metro Dome, of course,...

It worked than, glad to see it still does.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Actually not bad. Remember that good security going in = few exits going out. Its a tradeoff.

Not really FQ.  It has the same number of doors and exits, but they limit the number of doors open unless it is an emergency.  They ran a test once where they let unlimited access to doors on one side of the stadium, and the entire roof shifted.  The video and photos looked like a beer mug being sloshed.  Workers say that the building actually moans, and that is how they get an early warning to close exit doors.

As far as security, the building offers no advantage or disadvantage over any other stadium.
