Home Burglaries Are Down Due To Unemployment, Wait A Minute!!
« on: November 09, 2009, 06:03:09 PM »
Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News, just gave a "snippet" that across the country Police Statistics are showing a decrease in home burglaries.

Why???

More people at home due to the high unemployment rate..

That's it.  They haven't updated the link on the nbcnightlynews.com site yet.

OK,, I can go for that being a part of the reason, BUT NO mention of the RECORD GUN SALES over the last year.

Home Alarm sales are up and yet robberies on the street away from home are up.

Yes I watch the NBC evening news so I can yell at the TV, hear no recognition of Reagan or Thatcher for the 20 year anniversary of the Fall Of The Wall, and hear how the house bill was a Monumental Milestone even though it only squeaked by with 2 votes.

I endure this liberal MSM crap to share with DRTV, and justify the big glass of wine I have with dinner... ::)

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

They may be referring to plain old daytime B&E's as opposed to "Home invasions".
But no doubt the guns in 1 of every 2 homes doesn't hurt.

"pros" don't want a confrontation. They want to steal your stuff and get out.

only fools and people that want to hurt you break into a house at night.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

Its also total cap. Clinton got credit for a similar crime decrease in the mid-1990's. I will admit that federal grants geared towards hiring more patrol officers helped. What really worked though, was the 4% unemplyment rate. Most B@E's are crimes of opportunity. I can't pay the rent/want a new TV and I know the guy on the way home from work leaves his lawn mower in the car port kind of stuff. More joblessness=more desperation=more folks making bad calls they wouldn't make if they had a steady paycheck. Historically, the greatest predictor of crime is unemployment, particularly among the young. Here, this isn't the case. That leads us to look at dettererance; better LE, stiffer penalties, pawn shop laws that make it harder to fence stuff, and yes, the possibility of an armed homeowner.
