MOVING FROM OHIO TO ERIE COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA
« on: November 24, 2009, 11:46:35 AM »

Hi Everyone:

Here is the situation, if someone intends on relocating to Erie County PA in the next few months or so and will be renting a house.  If they would like to purchase a gun to use for personal protection.  My question is this; can they legally purchase the gun in Ohio and take it with them to PA?  What is involved in this process?  Would they be better off to wait until they move to PA to buy the gun.

Do you know if a gun is given as a gift but not in the gift person’s name, would that be legal to take the gun to PA if it is was bought in Ohio?

All your guns are welcome, just don't let Fast Eddie know.  :-X

The process for your concealed carry permit is pretty painless also.

How difficult is it to purchase in Ohio?  If it's a big PITA that requires licenses and permission and genuflecting to the powers that be, then wait until you move to PA.  You only need to go through the background check to purchase a firearm.  Sometimes it takes as long as 15 minutes!  If it's pretty much the same way in Ohio, then 6 of 1,...

Painless in Ohio...Go to the dealer, fill out the papers, plop down your $$$$$'s, dealer will do the background check and if you pass you walk out with your new blaster.  At a gunshow for a private sale between individuals you plop down your $$$$'s and walk ou with the gun.  Sometimes (should be always) the individual will ask if you can show proof of residence...Ohio Drivers License.

My great-great-grandfather is buried in Girard with a bunch of his family. Beautiful country up there.

Other than that, can't help, don't live either place.

Though this wasn't part of your question, I suggest contacting a local, respected, 2A loving, criminal defense attorney to consult on self defense with a firearm in the state of PA, and in Erie county. I know you're not planning on getting into a gun fight, but it might be helpful if you knew what you can expect if you have the misfortune.

Best of luck!
