I don't think you're wrong at all. Ron Paul has good points and bad, but he's basically a Libertarian. Which is NOT a bad thing to be. He's basically pushing the idea that the government is out of control (which it is), the taxes are too high(they are); the tax revenue is greatly wasted (it is)...etc. He's not wrong about a lot of things.
My problem with Ron Paul from what I've seen of him (and I'm no expert) is that he's always screeching about something, and it's hard to get people to do things you want them to do when you're screeching at them. He's not smooth. I'm not sure he'd be very effective as a president and frankly, if he pushed too hard as president they'd probably just take him out.
He does like to tell it like it is, though.
