The Quaker is suffering from insomnia again. Tonight, I made myself useful and cleaned my guns. (Screw warm milk, the smell of Rem lube and Hoppe's #9 is as soothing as it gets)

What occured to me was this. I was cleaning out my AR. Its a rifle I have about as much probability of actually needing for its intended purpose as I do of winning the powerball. Yet and still, I can own it. Semi-auto granted, but a thirty round mag, eotech, mil spec and ready to go. My government trusts me with it and doesn't ask why I need it (howevever unwillinglly and that's the point). In return I trust (defined as trust but verify) my government. It makes me wonder what goes through the minds of folks in Australia, Europe and sadly some American states, who don't demand they have the same arms as the police so that the proper relationship between rulers and ruled can be established. That relationship is an armed truce. Trust but keep your powder dry.
