Once again FQ, you've jumped to your own conclusion here. I never questioned my friends patriotism nor did I question the Congressmans or even Specters for that matter.
I merely made an observation, with some experience in the matter, that making advancement through the officer corps of our active duty military requires that one might have to play a bit of politics to get advanced to the upper reaches of power. Kiss a bit of ass, plan your strategy, volunteer for certain things when the timing is right, take advantage of every situation that arrises and never waste a good tragedy. In other words, play politics.
One of the reasons I left active duty and never made the military a career was that I was unwillling to sacrifice my ethic or morals and kiss the ass of people I did not respect or thought had earned the right to lead men. Unlike you or most academics, I don't find that a college education builds character or defines who has leadership potential. Leaders rise to the occasion regardless of their humble beginings.
As too the rest, I remember the day John Kennedy died quite vividly, don't presume that you're recollection of the history of America is any better than anyone elses.
