He's never worked with me...
I've made a couple range trips with coworkers from my studio, and if I ever open my own you can be sure there'll be a gun rack in my office. But he's right, in the entertainment business, movies, games, television, its all about entertainment and fun. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but its regrettable that some people watch an action flick and walk away thinking that guns are magical death machines that fire a millions head seeking bullets a minute while the shooter sits back with a cigar and glass of bourbon.
I've decided that any video game guns I get to design would be rooted in reality and just a much for their effects as a weapon. And by 'reality' I mean awesome sci fi reality with magical head seeking bullets at a million a minute. I'll be sure to add a disclaimer, winky face.
