Things in Alaska must be worse than we have heard if the bears are resorting to suicide. :'(

You can find ALL KINDS of things in power boxes.  I am going to bet there was a beehive in that box, actually pretty common for bears to chew up power and comm boxes to get to the smell of honey or grubs.

Also common to find snakes trying to get out of the heat or cold.  You have to hope they did get fried--not all do!

There is something about some of today's man made materials that some animals love to gnaw on, my Dad had a problem in Idaho with a bear chewing through the water line from the well to the house.
and I have heard of several cases where repairs were needed due to sharks chewing on underwater optic fiber cables, ( that article mentioned it had not been a problem with copper wire.)

Had a dog who chewed through the power cord of an appliance while it was plugged in.

I noticed the problem when I found the circuit was dead.  Tracked it down to that damaged power cord and figured "Boggie" had gotten to it.

Checked him and he seemed ok with maybe a minor burn or two on his mouth.

But from then on whenever I picked up my drill with the power cord dangling, he ran and hit behind a dresser...
