Authentic Punch
« on: November 24, 2010, 01:05:49 PM »
I've been rereading some books on the British navy and I got inspired. Lacking a cannon or a cutlass for playing with, and having zero taste for either sodomy or the lash (though the latter is negotiable if Red or M'lette are interested ;)) I figured drinking was the best way to add a little reenactment fun.

Here's the thing. The original punch was made from either rum or an Indian version of brandy, tea, sugar and spices. I was wondering if any of you sots er refined gentlemen out there had ever tried or made it? It sounds interesting. Actually it sounds more interesting than good, but worth a try.

Talk Like A Pirate Day had this on their website. I too am interested in the punch with tea.

American Grog
A Staple For Every Privateer
1 measure dark rum
1 teaspoon sugar
2 cloves
lemon juice
stick of cinnamon
Serve in mug. Top with hot water.

Pirate’s Tea
1 1/2 - 2 oz spiced rum
Coca-Cola®
orange juice
Pour spiced rum into an ice-filled mason jar. Add coca-cola to the ridge of the jar, and fill with orange juice. Garnish with a lemon wedge, and serve.
