You can buy the whole guide-rod/spring assembly from Brownells for about $7.00 at the link below:

The folks at Brownells have an excellent tech support group and if you call them to order the parts they might be able to tell you more than I can.

If you get a new one, the key to removing it is to partially retract the slide and then pull up on the exposed guide rod. You just have to be careful not to let the spring slam forward against the plastic retaining piece on the front.
