Justice Breyer robbed at West Indies vacation home

WASHINGTON (AP) — Justice Stephen Breyer was robbed last week by a machete-wielding intruder at his vacation home in the West Indies, a Supreme Court spokeswoman said Monday.

The 73-year-old Breyer, wife Joanna and guests were confronted by the robber around 9 p.m. EST Thursday in the home Breyer owns on the Caribbean island of Nevis, spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said. The intruder took about $1,000 in cash and no one was hurt, Arberg said.

She said the robbery was reported to local authorities, but she did not know if an arrest has been made. The U.S. Marshals Service is assisting local authorities and the Supreme Court Police with the investigation, Marshals Service spokesman Jeff Carter said.

Breyer reported on his most recent annual disclosure in June that property he owns on Nevis is worth between $100,000 and $250,000.

The last time a justice was the victim of a crime was in 2004, when a group of young men assaulted Justice David Souter as he jogged on the street in Washington.

In 1996, a man snatched Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's purse while she was out walking with her husband and daughter near their home in Washington. Ginsburg was not hurt.

The justices return from a nearly month-long recess for a closed-door conference on Friday. They will next meet in public on February 21.

Made service calls to the islands,....felt naked the whole time....They are GUN FREE ZONES,.....unless your a criminal or police (often the same),....

However, machete's, shovels, hammers, whatever, are used by criminals, and it's kinda primitive as they only thing Breyer could have used was a tactical Ginsu in the kitchen.....

But,...it's a windows and doors open island. With an unarmed element the criminals know about.

He may take a "larger" view of self defense, in the next 2nd Amendment case brought before the court....But, at 73,....the "just give him what he wants so he goes away" mindset may be not reversible.

Based on the OP, I see that criminals only target the more left leaning Justices,....Ironic isn't it???? As I bet Scalito carries a snub.

Speaking of tactical Ginsu's.
...I had to replace a mirror on the Sis in Laws car this week and found one on Amazon for 20 bucks.  To get the free freight on the order I bought a Swiss Army 8" Chefs knife for about 25 bucks as well.  I've been looking at them for a while because they come highly recommended for an inexpensive kitchen knife.

I'm very, very, very impressed with the quality of this knife!  It actually makes my high dollar Henckels take a back seat...

People like him are slow learners and it should have been a wake up call on how liberals let criminals run loose all over the world. :'( :-X

Don't bet on Jack Benny changing his mind.. He only drifts left, not right..

....

A $25 knife that beats a Henckel interests me... If nothing else, just the thought of it would almost be worth the money to find out..
