Jolie has made public comments on firearms for self defense.
Basically what she said was that if some one tried to hurt her kids she could, and would, shoot the crap out of them.

I know but I doubt she shares her fathers conservative values!

Work has twisted your mind.
The DL said if some one tried to harm him and he had a gun he would not hesitate to shoot them.
As a more or less pacifist he sees no contradiction in using force to prevent the wrongful taking of a life.

My mind's been twisted far longer than just the last week Tom!

A pacifist will let someone kill his family, his dog, his cat and himself without lifting a finger.  The DL is not a pacifist by that definition!

I'd bet he'd give Angie a go too!!!

I should have said, "Twisted beyond what passes for normal".  
I'm not sure the Lama's are celibate, ( there were at least 2 Lama's in Tibet, the DL was the Spititual leader of the faith, there is another whose title I forget but he is head of the secular Govt. of Tibet and has been under Chinese control since the 50's.) so he might very well be willing to give AJ a poke. (bearing in mind that he's in his 70's ability may be another matter )
Buddhism is essentially a passive religion, that holds even the life of a black fly to be a sacred gift from the creator.
On the other hand, it does recognize the need for defensive violence. Tibet had an army still armed with bows when China first invaded, with training in modern weapons and supplies from the CIA they held of the Chinese for several years and continue to give them fits to this day.
