After close to a solid year of anticipation, Colt's Mustang PocketLite .380 ACP 1911 handguns are shipping.  They're much improved over the original Mustangs and have a very competitive MSRP.  We think they're going to take a solid bite out of the pocket pistol market.

To be honest, the original PocketLites weren't that great.  Twenty-five years ago, the .380 was a nothing caliber with nobody making decent bullets in it so it should come as no surprise that Colt's design reflected that.  The Mustang of 1986 had loose tolerances, a lot of slop in the assembly, and budget cast parts.  The new Mustang is entirely CNC machined out of bar stock and locks up like a premium pocket pistol should.

In the interest of the Colt Team's sensibilities, we no longer refer to them as "recalls". Henceforth, they are to be known as "Free Hat Givaways with gun tunings". Or is that only for Rugers?  ;)

Cool looking .380 though. Interesting MSRP too. For the price, I would go with the SIG first, then look to the Colt for the name. After the Free Hat Giveaway though.  ;D

Other than it's a re-pop of an old Colt, I see no reason to buy this over an LC-9 from Ruger.

Why can't someone make that design in a 9x19 rather than the .380?

After inheriting my Father's early 90's Colt PocketLite, on the advice of m25, I replaced the factory dual recoil springs, with a single spring from http://www.gunsprings.com/

Cost: about $6.00 shipped.

I have the results of my .380 Day post here in the handgun thread. I had no problems. As in NONE.

IMHO, Colt is late to the mousegun party, and over priced. The very popular Kel-Tec copy, the Ruger LCP, is a good pistol, so are the Sigs.

As Timothy posted, a pocket 9mm, is now the latest thing, as other manufacturers are getting on the "9" uber compact bandwagon. My ol' S&W 6906, fits that niche fine for me.

Still like my Colt though... ;D

Well in all fairness, the .380 has attributes that I prefer over ALMOST any nine. Yes 380's do carry a bit less knockdown power,
But are much less likely to over penetrate; that is with all things being equal. Working in the medical field I can attest to the damage the .380 causes. I don't see myself getting the new colt since I have the sig. Just my 2 cents
