Anyone catch the 1/30 ETU
« on: January 31, 2013, 10:16:24 AM »
Jessie Duff a few observations

1.    She cleans up really nice …    :o
2.   After she lost concentration and got bested by one of the SWAT guys she beat the rest of them like rented mules!

In the ‘elimination’ part of the show, where they all used the P250, I was amazed how poor the marksmanship was on the poppers …

The show is growing on me a little bit course so does athlet's foot, but for the love of God could somebody get rid of Mike Hawk's silly hat ....
Have your musket clean as a whistle, hatchet scoured, 60 rounds powder and ball and be ready to march at a minute's warning.

I watched the show for a short while.  I saw the shoot-off.  I heard one of the shooters complaining about the trigger.  It is a common complaint I often hear.  I know some people love the P250 and, if so, that is great for you.  That is why there are so many choices.

On the sales floor I make sure everyone who seems interested in the P250 dry fire the gun at least once.  I even suggest they go to our range and rent one and then decide.  You either love the trigger or you hate it.  There isn't much middle ground on the P250.

I've been in that situation shooting next to pros, Julie Golob and Rob Leatham mostly, and when they falter or relax and you get close they respond just like Jessie did last night - They SMOKE you!  Oh, and Robbie will make fun of you while he does it  ;D  I liked how she would make her hits, unload, check her magazine, and be swapping for a full one and then the competitor would finally hit his stop plate.

One competitor put it best when he said that after his second hit he thought Jessie had a malfunction, and then he realized she was done  :o

That elimination round is the type of thing I encounter on the range with law enforcement all the time.  Outside of a few dedicated, the vast majority need need to go inside the barn and close all the doors and windows if they want a chance at hitting the broad side.  Bad trigger??? OK for the first shot and for a slow time, but those performances were nothing but painful to watch and should have been an more than humbling.

I enjoyed the show, she had the advantage with a compitition gun.  Anyone know what brand of targets those are?  The red target fell when hit.  We'd love to have a set of those for our gun club.

I think it would have been a LITTLE closer if she'd had to start from the holster, while the SWAT guys started from low-ready.  She was using her comp rig so the draw would have been pretty fast.

I can't get around the P250.  I don't like the feel or the trigger so I can see them not doing that well with it.  I didn't see last night's shoot-off but the rest of them I've seen were either 226s or 1911s that the guys are probably more familiar with.

There are a couple of target mftrs that have falling steel plates.  There is a shop near where I work that has them for $275.  It's basically a plate on a pole.  The bracket that holds it on is set on the top of the pole and when the plate is hit it moves it back and the bracket slides down the pole.

I buy mine from MGM.

Reasonable price, excellent quality, very adjustable, and the plates are bolted so you can rotate them and not get the cupping you saw on theirs last night.

She started shooting for Taurus last year. I believe she is shooting a 1911 in 9mm.

That is her limited gun, and she shoots Taurus.  However, if you look it is a double stack STI magazine, so I'm going with an STI 2011 or something similar.

Keep in mind this is my thought based on looking at photos, and not from anything from Jessie.  She does not have a "gun vault" on her website.  However, I shoot an STI Eagle 5.5 2011, and a Para P16 (uses STI magazines) and the magazines match hers visually, and I can not find a double stack gun in Taurus.

High-end Limited double stack 1911 pattern pistols are almost exclusively STI's or SVI's, with a a FEW Para's or Caspian's,  then modified per the particular smith's "signature."   All depends on how much you want to spend and who you want to do the work.
