More ruminations . . .

Most of the comments are about going back to the original forms envisioned by our Founders. My point about Pandora - as echoed by CR with his "too far down the rabbit hole" (and what is it about you and rabbits, BTW? ? ?  ;) ) - is that there is no going back.

I also agree that there may well be some form of breakup, with significantly reduced Federal control. I do not want that, I am not advocating for that - it is a curse when someone tells you "May you live in interesting times"! And folks we are living in interesting times, about to get much more interesting!! Any kind of breakup or revolution as discussed here will amp that "interesting" up by leagues!

One of the key problems is that even in ND we have the overwhelming majority of the state - geographically, politically and socially - thinking one way, with Fargo and Grand Forks being liberal Minneapolis suburb wannabees. The precinct map after the last 4 elections show very clearly a sea of red across this country with blue hot spots everywhere - that mostly coincide with the entitled and power-mad classes. Denver, Detroit, Atlanta, St. Louis, Madison, WI, and other uber-liberal centers exist everywhere, in every state. So any kind of breakup has to take that into account.

Substantive changes will need to be made in the laws - such as a Constitutional Amendment that prevents Congress from passing any law that exempts the Legislative, Executive or Judicial branches from the effects of the law - and interpretations of the law such as those issued by activist judges. Clarifications of the Constitution and the Amendments, such as the 1st, 2nd, 4th (after the Kelo decision), et al. are also necessary.

Significantly reduced federal control is a must.
We should be aiming for something like what Afghanistan had where the Central Govt controls Washington and tries to mediate between the separate states, and serve as the groups face to the rest of the world .
This is what the Taliban have been fighting to retain.
The fact they are losing is evidenced by the fact that soon, for the first time in recorded history, Afghan citizens will be required to pay an income tax.
