Ruger SP 101 4" wheel gun
« on: May 20, 2013, 11:46:26 AM »
Just picked up my new SP101 4" in 22lr today.  It's heavier than I thought, but it is steadier than my Taurus 94 4" .  It seems that the barrel weight adds to stability.

Using CCI standard velocity, any idea of whether I should at 6 o'clock or at the X ring when I shoot it?

"Heavier than I thought" is as much a Ruger trade mark as the Eagle on the grip.  ;D

Naw, the Taurus 94 had thicker grips!  And I think the balance is better for me.

Seriously, having not shot a ruger before does the SP10 SHOOT HIGH OR LOW.

Knowing how limited 22lr is, and pricey, how about a hint.  Hold at 6 o'clock or the X ring?

I suggest you take a large piece of blank paper (bigger than a pistol target), put a black dot in the center with magic marker, put it up and shoot at the dot.  Where the bullet hits will give you an idea of your required hold.  Try this with the different brands of ammo you have because they may not hit the same poi.

Yes, I wanted the old steel 6 shot model 4" barrel S&W 63, but kept losing them at auctions on line.  So I tried for a new Ruger, never been fired in the box, etc... .

Am going to try 25 rounds of CCI standard velocity, followed by 25 of the golden bullet
